As like most of India’s population we surrendered our lives to a lengthy period of isolation, quarantine, and lockdown many of us found entertainment in social media or OTT platforms some of us toll to utilizing this time to learn something new, achieve our fitness goals, or focus on personal development.
Some of us were able to spend some quality time with our families or loved ones but most important factor was that all of us were safe at our home, well provided for when it came to love, care, food and comfort I call this our absolute privilege.
At that time another scenario was unfolding like spine chilling scare from horror movies as disturbing images were being passed around images of thousands and thousands of Migrant Daily wage workers walking barefoot with their families to their homes as far as 2000-3000 km.
Their employers refused to look out for them with no Home of their home an no money to survive in the city these migrant workers had no other option but to return to their villages and that to on foot as transportation across the country had been closed. The truth is these workers were not just let down their employers or government but we as a society as a whole failed them
Nobody stopped to think about them even once just imagine that in a country like India where there is a development project going on in different parts of the country have you ever thought about what drives these projects? And again there is a new upcoming project piramal mahim 2 bhk It is these Daily wage workers if not for them we won’t be seeing the beautiful structures that stand tall today in different cities they work tirelessly and relentlessly building these projects for a meager income so that they can sustain themselves and their families migrating from one city to another in search for work.
They are the backbone of India’s development and yet when the time came, they were completely ignored at the time of crisis left on their own with no means of survival !!! as we quarantined at the comfort of our homes the very home who’s building blocks were laid down a migrant daily wage worker.
This whole incident sheds light on this disparity in terms of inequality faced the underprivileged of our society and I hope that this Pandemic will cause us reflect as to what has become of us as a society and what we can undertake to transform it and if we still have difficulties in not grasping what to do then we can take an example from some humanitarian Warriors who could teach us a lesson or two on humanity as they stepped out and went out of their way to serve these Migrant workers providing them shelter, food, water, clothes, shoes, and monetary help.
