Hope everyone is gainfully employed, does anyone out there know how to work out the new SRZ formula. I have tried to, but with little luck. The Tree World on line calculator is great but the AS 4970-2009 SRZ GRAPH does not correspond with the online calculator. Could someone explain the formula to me in a simplistic form step by step as I'm far from being a maths genius. Can anyone explain the 0.42 and how this is used in the calculation. This is my final year of the course at Ryde in the Arb Diploma. I would appreciate any help. Regards ulp |

Not much tree work over the last month. Keep checking to see if the phone is still on. Had a enjoyable 2 weeks off siding my brother overhauling a V16 Cat motor thats coupled to a generator.(exchange heads, big ends and rings). Since then been going through my Dad's sheds tidying up and chucking out. Got a quote to do Saturday and 3/4 day of trees on Monday, recon I'll need a weeks holiday after that. Alls good, actually driving to Sydney on Tuesday and back Thursday with my son and a mate with his son. Wedensday nite we might go to the opera or something, as thrashing NSW is getting a bit monotonous. |

I have a question about some park trees growing in an area that gets very waterlogged. I need to tell you straight up that I'm a treehugger and have been known to have the occasional argument with municipal arborists. I have attached a photo of some Hill's figs sitting in the little lake that forms every time it rains and a photo of the drain that seems to do nothing. The trees are decades old so I probably shouldn't worry but our council has its eye on getting rid of all our mature figs. ![]() ![]() |

I have a question about how these young tuckeroos will go planted so close together. I'm sure the people who planted these were starved of funds and so possibly had no choice - or council didn't want to lose another parking space. Anyway. As I said in my last question, I'm a treehugger so I'm fair game for people who can't bear treehuggers. |

Looking for a new job, trying to get out of IT. Attempting to keep up with how fast the wife is using up our firewood. Hanging out with my little buddy Lawson, my 3 1/2 month old son. Trying to get the fitness levels up a lot. Crusin' TW, absorbing lots of information. |

Workin on putting together a quote for a large pine felling and cutting up. I hesitate to say "removal" because I currently don't have a truck, nor the means to haul a chipper. The job is out in the sticks though, and I'm looking at putting together a quote for dropping it and cutting it all up. Logs/rounds in one pile, and brush in the other, then subbing out to someone to have them come in and chip the stuff up. There's a chance that I could bring in a friend and use their truck, but I'm not sure about that at the moment; and not having that as a certain asset makes putting together the finishing touches on this quote a little more vague. Bah. Can't wait to get another truck! |

I've about 90 roses to prune Dov, but I don't mind. I just wait till the frosts are over though before I start. My lemon tree needs pruning so bad but it's sagging to death with lemons, I've made lemon meringue, lemon squash by the jug fulls, gave bags and bags away, squeezed them over fish and still have millions. I guess they'll stop sooner or later and will prune it then. The mandarin and orange trees are loaded as well but they look ok as far as pruning goes. My apple, peach and plum trees aren't that big yet so they're ok. |

I am not familiar with the species, but I suspect the planting body expected one or more trees to fail because of vandalism, car-bashing, or neglect -- so if one tree out of 3 survived, that would be good odds. And if not, they can say they tried with 3! TREES. What more could anyone expect them to do? | |

Off to do a PC repair job today. Still got some computer customers from before I went right into trees. Maybe I should be trying to get that business running again with the way my health is going of late...

Is it discreet to ask what is wrong with your health? Certainly the computer business is bound to require less physical exertion, but likely more stress with in-the-face customers more of the time.

random stuff. mostly storm preparation, removing hazard trees and assessing the threat posed by possible hazard trees. we did get an interesting oak that got struck by lightning three times in one storm, the effect was actually quite fasinating. i wish i had taken pictures it looked almost artistic, as if done on purpose. perfectly split at the middle on one side, about six inches wide and two opposing branches also split at their tops that curved rather gracefully into the crown. |
