I do not consider myself a professional Arborist or Silviculturalist, yet, just a land owner who wants to get some real trees growing. Since the climate here is close to that of Victoria and Tasmania, I have been interested in getting a crop of blue gum as well as an assortment of other gums growing for wood production, wind break, and natural shade for my Horses. I'd love to see how some Mountain Ash, Eucalyptus Regnans, would do here. ( I'd love to see the reactions of the maintenance workers on the area's 90 meter wind power generating towers watch as my trees grow taller than their towers )

Perhaps someone close to Waverley wouldn't mind parting with a limb off an overgrown Birch tree? | |

I've just shovelled 4 metres of dirt to make a new garden as I've run out of trees to hang my pots and pans on, so need to plant some more trees. ![]() |

Yesterday, I was able to finish working on one of my chain saws, and get it running. It is a Strunk Busy Beaver, from the 1950"s. It has a Tillotson HP carburetor on it, that the diaphragms were obsolete, for over 36 years, when Dad tried to find parts for his chain saw. It too was a Strunk, but I found a guy in the USA, that makes new diaphragms, using the metal part of the diaphragm. The Busy Beaver is the rear chain saw. The other chain saw is A Strunk, SpeeDemon Special. I also had to rebuild the carburetor for it as well, and I got it running too. Bruce.

HI Tree World Ninja Monkey. Whats up? I just finished up a job on Mackinac Island clearing trees that were to high for the runway approach. Mostly spruce and maple with some ironwood and Beach. Speaking of Beach, Mackinac Island has been hit with Beach bark disease( Fagus grandifolia) it is in it's fifth year and the trees are being decimated. We have been clearing them from roads and trails because of Beach snap and the danger of someone being injured. It is a very sad sight to see such glorious trees falling victim to an invader such as this.

It was at times, but hauling a tanker, wind just blew around it. It was pretty high up there, and the view was very nice. Beach is going like the Elm trees did, and still once they get so big, they die off, from the Dutch Elm disease. Bruce.

Thank you Bj- but it wasn't actually my birthday, but thanks anyway A mate of my husbands. It was a good night. Haha Julie, she is pretty cute, Ekka has promised to send me some warts, so kind! XOXO ![]() We're off uptown, they have this Nostalgia weekend here once a year and there are bands in the streets, market stalls and Elvis's running around everywhere (very unkool but whatever, re the Elvis's) ![]() Best of all, hundreds of old fashioned cars are on display like old cadillacs, old holdens and fords and all sorts of weird old cars. They are seriously KOOL! They do rocknroll dancing in the park and that's ok as well. |

I still haven't made my next big climbing attempt. Had a cold for a while, then did conventional garden work, and now the East Coast is in the middle of a three-day rainstorm. In a minute I'll post another question in the Climbing section; just trying to work through my phobias in advance. |

Enjoying the nice long weekend. Had another big shot of winter up in our hills and 9 inches of snow in our block on Tue. Trucks were shut down and have since been doing the odd tree job I had booked on the down time. Hopefully back to the day job next week when they're done plowing. Can't complain as we had one of the best winters for snow out here in a while(as I'm sure some of you saw during the olympics). Enjoy the time off! I guess. Heads up everyone and have a good one.

| gday mates. i had planted more than 500mahogany trees in this part of Philippines in the northern area. I run out of seedlings that were freely given by the Dept of Environment & Natural Resources and a non-govt org in my province. Hope the 400+ seeds will germinate.anyone who can give me tips how to successfully germinate the seeds? i see some white/moldy color in some seeds. I'm not sure how long will it take for the seeds to sprout and I'm just keeping them moist by regular watering
