Busy rebuilding an 084. Going to be a nice project, when it is done. Also rebuilding a few carburetors, one for my second 024, second 044, and for the 084. Also tearing down the engine to my loader tractor. Threw a connecting rod, a couple weeks ago. I don't know the extent of the damage inside the engine as of yet. A friend of mine, gave me a hand yesterday, to split the tractor, between the engine, and the clutch housing, pull the front axle, from the engine and put the engine in a engine stand. I'm working on getting things organized in my shop to where I can get the engine inside, with the wood stove going, and work where it is warm. Too cold in the shed part of the building, to be doing too much wrench work. Bruce.

![]() I hate ivy jobs. Does it make you itchy over there? Here it's full of spiders, webs, bugs, you name it and they're all itchy. I palmed off an ivy job once to another tree guy, his co worker came to the pub later and told me I was a xxxx.

Fortunatley the ivy has been quite damp due to melting snow etc so that helps keep the dust down. Do get a little itchy but we are so well wrapped up to keep out the cold there aint much skin exposed. Rob. And hey, Climb safe out here.

The dust is the worst that's for sure, that stuff can kill you. It's no fun wearing a mask in 30C-38C temps that's for sure, but I'm not too fond of freezing. |

Hi Therrin.Thanx for your interest. Things r slower than they were last year, but still ticking along ok. now I'm looking at injecting an avo for root rot, resurrecting a bird box, just cleaned up a suburban garden( small trees, palms and shrubs) deadwood a red gum, and write a report for a building site. I've got to get a proper copy of AS 4970 and get my head around it, and get my hands on some TPZ signage. How about you? |

Good work Bob. Had pretty heavy snow today , such a change from the fantastic fine days we had been having over the last week.Worked for about 1hr then called it quits as we felt visibility was so low on the busy street we were working on due to the horizontal snow flying along the street that passing vehicles would not see us or the chipper in operation. Also Hire co wouldn't let us keep chipper on standby, so dropped it back to them and told them where to stick it! Kind of annoyed the boss as he has been using the same co for about 10 years. ![]() Day off tomorrow as couldn't borrow chipper and expecting more of the same weather again. Hate snow down the back of the neck! ![]() Ordering new Arbor-Safe helmet and silky tomorrow, looking forward to some shiny new toys, better get into town and buy some sticking plasters for the inevitable though! ![]() ![]() |

G'day back. I'm not sure if you were responding to me specifically but I don't sell saws, just firewood. If you have a look around in the forum titled "chainsaws" there are a few threads in there that might help. There is some pretty good information in here.

Happy? It's a freakin' lombardy...and it was topped some years ago... I'd say lose the danged thing...but if there's no structures nearby...... Search my ?????? site for two threads on some huge lombardy removals...in extremely close quarters. Just looked at another....but a co owned tree. One neighbor wants it down, the other likes it....I told 'em the weed would cost $10k in 10 years...by then it'll be 7 feet dbh...Today, it's only about $4500.

What a painful week, wish I had an extra day of rest atm. 3 nice climbs, Sweet Pittosporum, Silly Oak & a Lilly Pilly. The Lilly Pilly was scary at the end, went up as high as I could and im 99% sure I could hear and feel the trunk cracking, I quickly came down a bit, scarfed out the head and zoomed down to the ground. Getting soo much better at scarfing smaller branches in trees now, getting even better with the polesaw from the ground. Took my groundie 45 minutes to take down this Ash with the tower while I estimated 15 minutes to take it down from the ground with a polesaw, it only took me about 10 minutes to take out the hard side with the polesaw.

A bit of a change this weekend. I ended up clearing out a mates garden on his new house. Gotta love mates rates. 1 case of beer and worked my guts out. The list of removals thus far: -Japanese honeysuckle -Nerium oleander x2 (They seem to bread them in southern sydney. On roundabouts everywhere. No wonder they call it "gods country" with all of these oleanders -1 which i can never remeber the name of. Leaf is similar to Rhus ie discolourous and hairy on the underside. Has a purple petals with white stigma. Often causes rashes similar to a Rhus and bugger me if next weekend he has conned me into two Montery pines to remove. One is ok the other has three phase power going through the canopy |

Hi Bruce and others. Working on studying for my Connecticut Arb. licence. Training and practising skills for Atlantic Coast Championship, Underwater hockey Tournament . To be held in Washington DC April 10&11 2010 . Unfortunatly this year the CT tree climbing comp falls on the same weekend ( April 10 ) which I start preping for @ this time of year . Ladies and Gentlemen these climbing comps are excellent venues to look and learn ,make friends or take part . I used just spectate and chat but succumed to peer pressure and now take part. I work for the city of Danbury Forestry Department ( tree crew ) During snow storms I shovel the downtown cross walks and shift to tree work should the need develop. I am working on posting a Red Oak takedown. Keep up the great postings guys . Hey Ekkard maybe one day there will be a tree world rendezvous. Cheers Pat H |

As of late. I've been working on a few chain saws that I have aquired. A 024, a 064, and a 084. I've cleaned up all of the chain saws, reassembled them, put carburetor repair kits in them all (still have to get one for the 064, and put in), and got them all running. The 084, I acquired a box of parts, almost enough parts to complete one chain saw, but the half wrap handle was missing, bar and clutch cover missing, and some of the fins were broken off of the flywheel. Had an almost new P&C kit, if not new, in the box cut a new cylinder gasket, and put it all back together. I acquired another 084, with the main bearings, and seals were shot, but had a good flywheel, so I swapped flywheels, and the top and air filter covers were also good. Also, this one had a 1/2 wrap handle on it, so I put it on the chain saw, I was rebuilding. Picked up a new bar, and clutch cover (had no used one), borrowed a bar, and chain for the time being, till the one I have ordered gets in. The 064, had a 3/4 wrap handle, was missing the chain brake spring band, and the handle for the chain brake was also missing. I found one that fits, and works for this chain saw. Tried to fine tune it, but I discovered that the carburetor kit needs replacing, then it should be good to go. The 024, all it needed was a carburetor repair kit put in, and I still have to fine tune the carburetor, as well, then it should be good to go, as well. Other than that, I've been also rebuilding the engine from my loader tractor. Had a connecting rod bearing let go a couple weeks ago, was lucky it didn't do any damage to the crank shaft, or to the connecting rod, so all I have to do is a bearing job, for the connecting rods, and the main bearings, then put everything back together again. Hope to be finished everything with it on Wednesday, engine back in the tractor, and the loader back on as well. Bruce.

Well , I'm restoring a couple Pioneers ; need airfilter covers for 1074 & 1073 plus fuel lines . Also a Husky 44 which I desperately need a "black" airfilter cover for . I'm also redoing a Homelite XL700 - parts coming . By the way , does anyone here know how to remove the AV mounts on a 44 ? I ordered a puller from Baileys but its wayyyy to big for this 44 . Help with any of these would be appreciated .

To put them back in, do it the same way, place the av rubbers, on the out side of the crank case housing, and drive them back in, with the wood doweling, and a hammer. I've never had any troubles doing it that way. Bruce.

Well, I went to my bush today, and I cut some fire wood. I tested out my 084, that I built, out a bunch of parts that I found, and another parts chain saw, and man, that chain saw sure is a brute. It has a lot of power, and it dragged that 30" .404 chain through an Ash tree, that I was cutting, as if it wasn't on the chain saw. I was very impressed with it. I wasn't cutting anything big, around 16" to 18" across. It sure threw the wood chips. I then got my 024, to do the liming of the tree up to about 4", and marked the rest of the tree, using a marking jig, that I fabricated, for my chain saw. Once I got it finished with the marking, for my cuts I wanted for length, I used my 034 and cut fire wood with it up to about 12", then I finished with my 044. I then threw the fire wood in the wood trailer, that I built out of an old manure spreader (in my profile picture, loaded with fire wood). I moved the trailer, over to another couple of trees, that blew over, that where on the same stump, and parked it beside the trees, and unhooked it there. I then proceeded to lift the trees up, out of the snow, with the fork lift attachment, on the three point hitch of the tractor (in my profile picture, pulling the load of fire wood). A couple of times, i had the front wheels of the tractor, up off of the ground, so I repositioned the tractor, to where I could lift the trees, safely. I then proceeded, and limb ed the trees, and cut them up int fire wood. Tomorrow, I'll go back to the bush, load the fire wood, that is cut, and if I have room on the load, I'll cut one more tree up, that is close to the trees, that I cut up. Bruce.

Heavier: You perhaps be eluded because dry wood is lighter but harder, heavier is usually more moist.

soar soar soar, its been a long week but its finally over! ![]() all in all one of the more challenging climbs 4 me lately. I had my uncle on the ground helping, hes the guy iv been watching climb for 25 years now, hes a bit of a condescending asshole at times but hes also the best guy I could think of to have on the ground/ropes since he learned how to work in trees at davey 35 plus years ago... they grew up back east in baltimore so he was taught how to get around in a tree without spikes, before ascenders and all that fancy stuff came out.... hes one of those guys that for some reason, no mater what the hell your in, you feel safe with him there, or at least on the ground. |
