Hiya yea things going well at the moment. We have had loads of snow here so access has been challenging to say the least! I have just bought a new rope, the new england tachyon and have set up with the hitch climber system and the valdotain tresse friction hitch. I am only into my fourth year as a climber and was taught using both ends of my rope with a standard prussik knot in both ends. I am finding this hard work in bigger trees is why im am trying somthing new, but im sure its going to take some getting used to. I am always learning and am not one of these guys who likes to think he knows it all and am always open to any advice and suggestions. I have been suffering with cramps especially in my right hand towards the end of long and grulling climbs, mainly in reductions as the climbing is always harder when your not on spikes, so i figured if i use a foot ascender to help me out on the accent this might lessen the problem in my right forearm/hand? I am quite tall at 6'7 and typically hang around the 15/16 stone mark so is alot of me to get around the tree so im interested in anything, ideas/techniques/ tools to help make my life easier! |

Hi Guy's, at the moment I'm concerned about my apple tree that I've been nursing for the last 12 months, this tree has been very productive, we are in drought and watering is only allowed twice a week in Melbourne , I've noticed the leaves edges turning brown and the bark seams to be drying out and also there is a small amount of fungus growing at the base, I have photos to show. ![]() Hello Therrin. Things kind of slow, Took a layoff in June, working on my new place. Slipped disc in my back, trying to get it feeling better. Wife caught flu and gave it to me. Wanted to cut firewood today but didn't feel like using Stihl 038, Got out a Stihl 025 my buddy gave me and got it running, cut for about an hour and ran out of gas, now it doesn't want to start. Think it's the boot to Carb, but got dark and didn't get a look at it. Was looking on here to see if I might be missing something - trying to get it to run. It has been below 10 degrees F at night coldest weather we have had in 15 yrs. Finally got up in high 50's in the day, too nice to stay inside.

I'm hoping to study arboriculture, so I thought joining this place would help me. I work for a subtitling company, Deluxe in Bangalore, India. Been here a long time with this company. It's not so bad, but 5 years is a long time, and it's time I figured what I'd want to do.

Hi Therrin - I'm new to this as well and may not always respond immediately. We are consulting in a number of areas here in Australia. Items of relevance to Tree World folks may be our work in Landscape Planning & Design as well as Protected Area Management. Things just steady right now - preparing new Landscaping Guide for Multi-Unit Residential Sites for a Local Council and a number of private development landscape plans. But also recently involved in the nomination of Ningaloo Reef & Cape Range in WA as a World Heritage Site and in prep. of management guidelines for the Nullarbor Plain in WA. Just took a break to Sydney and Canberra. How about you - what do you do & how's it going? Cheers, Dennis |

Well works going well, I work for myself climbing to pay my way through my Forestry degree from the University of New Brunswick. It's nice working for myself, only working afternoons and weekends. Plus having been doing this for two years now, people have started coming to me, being able to get work without having to look for it. I work for an tree care company in the summers learning the ropes (pardon the pun) and ins and outs of climbing and arboriculture in general. I would love to get some more experience climbing and when I am done my schooling, go down to Australia or NZ or maybe head out British Columbia way and climb some big trees. I would love to climb something bigger than you get on the East Coast of Canada. I only recently found this site and let me say there is a lot of great info here and it's a great resource. Thanks very much to you all. Cheers.

Still trying to come to terms with the attached. No bugger wants to hang off the other end of the 60" double banger so it looks like I will have to slab them myself with the 42" solo. Plenty of customers but no time to put in the hard yards. Wotcha upta? Art

It is a Macrocarpa tree,( Monterey Cypress ) one of 6 that a member of the Shed wants gone. Blocks the sun and the neighbour disputes ownership and has put up a fence to run right through them on the boundary line = firewood. Too good for that, so the boys got in on the act first and rescued them for posterity. The landowners can fight it out between themselves later. Good for boat building/house construction because of the inherent turpentine, but in this case to be slabbed full width with wany edge and destined to become BBQ/outdoor furniture. The butt came out at 1500mm diameter, about 5 feet. In all about 5 cube of usable material. It is not always easy to get clears from these trees but in this instance we were fortunate. Usually one half is good and the lee side is total branches. Have a look at Picasa Web Albums - West Franklin Com... - Sue Mac felling for a quick showdown of what they look like. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the interest, Art Last edited by Jeff Darby; 28th January 2010 at 06:39 PM. Kinda slow being its full blown winter up here in Michagan. Hoping an ice storm would lay some trees down but never developed. Kinda laid off right now. Plowing snow fills in my time. I have decided to learn rope climbing to broaden my abilities, so I have been re-searching different systems and set ups. Cant wait for spring to start practicing...

Hello I am a good gardner at home. I am busy developing interstem apple trees to replace old apple crop of my apple orchard.I am chairman of the state Expert apprailsal committee an environmental concern of the govt of india. I grow herbs inaddition to vegetables in my kitchen garden.I am experimenting with geraniums Plant hardiness -is a burning issue in cold climate gardening. Geraniums have to be stored warm locations to tide over the winter months in zone 5.I experimented with geraniums for development of cold hardiness. I planted rooted geraniums in March 2008 in the garden bed under the canopy of deodar tree. In April 2009 only 50% survived through the winter of 2008.The survivals had lush growth and profuse flowering during 2009 summer. All the plants have survived till to date with no sign of low temperature (Minus 5 Deg C) damage. The leaves have undergone reddish autumn hues. Work on a silver maple today. Little bit of rigging to be done due to wires around the tree. Got a chance to break in new rigging line so that was nice. Lots of big wood on the ground and all done with zero impact... it was a good climbing day.

| Just finished reducing a group of four silver birches. nice pleasant climb shame the wind was coming straight off the north sea as I had great views of the Edinburgh castle and the Firth of Forth. Off up to Aberdeen for a long weekend then see what happens next week, hopefully land some more work and afford to buy some new toys! |
