| Do you mean peel out? Where spike slides in bark. Wouldn't want to do that once a week. I think the pads are the main consideration and spike sharpness (and technique), not saving a few ounces. Do you really think the titanium is worth it? I am happy with aluminum.

I was wrong about the cost. Just checked Sherrill and the Gecko's are $529 but the Buckingham Titaniums are $369....not bad. But aren't the spikes themselves steel and the rest of the spike is Titanium? If that is the case the hardness is sort of irrelevant? You're just down the road in Indy. Rain stop there yet? | |

Yeah it stopped finally, thank god...anyways, the spikes I use are carbon fiber geckos. These climbers are not adjustable. They are made as one solid unit in sizes 17 inches through 20 inches. You have to be measured for fitment when you order a set of these. The set is made out of 100 percent carbon fiber fitted with the pads, velcro ankle straps, leather bottom straps and titanium gaffs. It's not so much the hardness that comes into play, it's the combination of having the lightest weight, but yet strongest matierials that are used for this set. I love them. Some guys hate them. I think they fit me just right. I think I'm going to switch to the pole gaffs though. The tree gaffs don't seem to penetrate hard wood cambium very well. (beech, sycamore, burr oak etc)

How well do the pads hold onto the carbon fibre spurs? When I saw them they were only attached with velcro, is there anything else or is that it?

I climb with that pulley/hitchclimber. I like it mainly for the 3 connects. Takes a little time to tweak pending how you attach everything. I find the rubber washers a must with the oval biners. Once you get it set up right it's pretty sweet. I use the petzel oval triact biners and eye to eye prussic. |

I love our chipper sooo much... /end retarded sarcasm. We needed it bad so we picked it up from the mechanic, he told us it has a blown head gasket... He also fixed an oil leak on one of the valves, just glued it over as he was waiting for parts. 2 hours into use the glue melts and oil starts coming out forcing us to shut it down... Then to finish the day I got sick and had to go home so we couldnt do the stump, made it home with seconds to spare. |

I have received all the parts that I needed to rebuild my 024, today in the mail. Now I have to clean up all the parts, and I can start to reassemble everything, and get my chain saw back up and running. Don't know how much a person misses using something, when it is down. No matter if it is just useds for yourself, or using it to make a living, like a lot of you guys. Bruce.
