Today, I was able to get my wood splitter rebuild finished. I just had to do some welding for the three point hitch hookup, for the tractor. I had to tighten up a couple of pipe fittings, for the hoses, for the control lever, to the hydraulic cylinder. I had to bolt the wedge, slide bracket to the beam of the splitter. I mounted it on a stack of 5 skids, ans secured it in place. with three straps, that way it won't tip over, while maneuvering it around, or using it to split the fire wood. All I have to do tomorrow, is place the splitter where it is going to be convenient, hook the hoses of the splitter to the hydraulics of the tractor, and while I haul the fire wood to the splitter with the loader tractor, split what needs to be split, and pile the rest away. I'll post some pictures of my set up later, after I take a few pictures of it. Bruce.

Been out looking for a mature Gingko biloba (male of course) around Brisbane to show clients for a Japanese style garden - any clues out there? I heard there was one at the UQ alumni garden but no luck so far....

| What is the make of that grapple Q.Q.? Doesn't look like a BMG and seems to have matching color with the Vermeer unit. Do they make one?

. BTW thanks for the warm welcome.Well I'm pretty much boared stiff.....soon as I find a job or more work I'll feel a lot better. Went from being covered up for the last 20 years to virtually nothing for the last year.....a working trim carpentry contractor I am. But I'm not happy doing it anymore and haven't been for a longtime. The industry has gone to the dogs in short, standards have been dumbed down...etc. Was hoping to make the great escape into the tree service industry.......still working on it. I got the will, just need the way. I do alot of practice climbing...pruning etc to stay in shape and keep learning. I also build PC's for friends but nothing on the bench right now. Life a draggin right .......be glad when the tide changes. Not used to all this down time. | |

I am a homeowner and have recently planted two Japanese blueberry trees in my yard. I planted them about 18 feet away from the wall of the pool and think I may have made a mistake since they grow so large. Will the pool be safe from their root systems once they get larger? I'm new to this site so I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this question. Please forgive if it's not. |

Whilst roots may travel out to the wall of the pool once contact is made they'll go sideways and follw it around. You could insert a root barrier between the pool and tree, most tree roots are concentrated in the first 1' of soil, so if you made a thin slot int he ground or even trenched say 2' deep and inserted a plastic root barrier then back filled etc it will help prevent roots traveling there.

Today, I decided to clean, and rinse out the fuel tanks of my chain saws, as well as the jerry can that I have my gas/oil mix in. When I did my carburetor repair job, on my 034, the carburetor was chucked full of real fine sawdust. The fuel tank on it had a whole lot of fine sawdust in it (posible it was like that from the previous owner, because I got it as a fixer upper). There was a little bit of dust in the other fuel tanks, of my 024, 026, and 044, and inside the jerry can, wasn't that bad either. Hardly any at all. I used a couple of really fine paint strainers, to pour the gas/oil mix back into the jerry can, once it was clean. There wasn't that much dust in the strainers, when I was finished pouring the gas/mix into the jerry can. I also put in a very fine screen (from a funnel) inside the neck of the pour spout of the jerry can, so that should help with the dirt, and the moisture, from getting inside the fuel tanks. Bruce.

Got that other 200T shipped off to Victoria, AUS. Over the most of my sickness, but feel like someone took some sandpaper to the back of my throat. Arrrgh. You know, he only wanted a 200T... I coulda shipped him mine and kept the new one..... I kid! I kid! lol, the funniest thing is that they didnt have a 200T box at the shop, but they had a 192T box, so his 200T is being shipped in a 192T box. I shoulda sent an email saying "sorry mate, couldnt find a 200T so I just sent you a 192T instead, cheers!" That would have been a real hoot. |

I wish I had Brimbank Council's setup. They took down that tall Euc in the middle in 25 minutes, all chipped up including the trunk and bang, gone. Cept they didnt cleanup, mulch all over the road that didnt get in the truck. And we had to drive past them with no chipper and that shocking little tipper, I felt sooooooooooooo jealous. |

My Ex-Father in-law was jealous of a farmer in the area. He always thought that he had to compete with this other guy's operation. I told my ex-father in law, that probably the other farmer wished he didn't have all of what he had, and wished he had a smaller operation, like what you have. Two months after I said that, the other farmer, that my ex-father in-law wanted to compete with, went Bankrupt, because he was too big, and his overhead was way to high. Remember there is two sides to every coin. Bruce.

| You tussle in your brain what to do when you have a little extra $ and that was a tough one but it paid for itself in the first year on jobs that could only be done efficiently with it. They are great for the elbow bending over a 3 story house to get trees off that are embedded in them when you cannot get in the tree and you can't get on a steep or broken roof.

Today was rather epic. Late start. Took the tower to this job coz its faster and easier than climbing this crappy ass cypress full of bird/possum poo. Got about 1/3 of the way in before a little possum comes out on the branch, I move the bucket away and he goes back to his nest. So I move the bucket towards the nest and see a mother with a baby on her back. Head down to the ground and look up the number for Wildlife Rescuers coz a girl in my TAFE class is a volunteer with them. They rocked up pretty quick, within about 30m of my call (thats pretty good considering its 100% volunteers). Spent the next 3 hours catching possums, 6 caught and 2 or 3 got away before we could catch them. 2 mothers and 4 babies, the male got away early and one of the other females disappeared somewhere. The girl on the phone sounded soo happy when I told her we had the tower with us, the chick they sent out had never been up in one before, was only about 8ish metres. |
