nothing particularly exciting. Work is great. Very Busy the past few months. I am looking into buying an injection system and looking for input from my fellow industry peeps. I just returned from the ISA annual conference in Rhode Island. At the Trade show I saw 3 different Injection systems, Arborsystems, Arborjet, and Mauget. Each claims to be the best system, obviously, but I have no experience with this aspect of trunk injections. Looking for feedback. pros, cons, efficacy.

Had the best climb ive had for a while yesterday but my right spur didnt wanna sit right. In the tree I felt nothing but after I took it off the pain in 2 or 3 of my toes is incredible, 14 hours after taking the spurs off my toes are still in pain, just a light touch hurts.

Works come to a standstill at the mo, no jobs on the cards -no good! Tidying up around the inlaws house and their rental property up the driveway. Waiting on u.k work visa's to arrive in the mail. hoping to get resource consent to remove a large Lombardy poplar and reduce the height of two others on both properties. |

Well, it sure sucks working as a casual, two weeks ago my right should got so bad that I had to go to the doc. diagnosis, rotator cuff injury, "rest and physio should make it right but better have an ultra sound just in case there is more damage". Finally got an apointment for ultra sound and they have found a full depth tear in my supraspinatus tendon, requiring surgery to fix. Now the doc. gives me clearance to go back to work till I can get in for the opp. providing no overhead work ie. above shoulder height, but being a casual I they don't want me back and will replace me with someone else, "Sorry there are no light duties here". Anyway it's probably a blessing in disguise as this job was an OH&S disaster area, was going to leave anyway after I gained a little more experience. The worst thing is I will probably miss tech. most of the rest of the year, and will put me behind a fair bit.

I hope you follow your doctor's advice and get the surgery on your rotator cuff. Not doing so can screw your shoulder up for the rest of your life. Huge calcium deposits can form after serious rotator cuff injuries go untreated making you look like someone who really does have a chip on your shoulder, a big ugly one like mine! Modern medicine is a very good thing mate, without it I'd be a cripple on crutches. Good luck with your operation Graeme! jomoco | |

Not having a good week. I was trying to move some farm machinery around, and load what I didn't need anymore (for livestock). I was working with my biggest tractor that has the fork lift attachment for the three point hitch, when for some reason the top link gave way, while I had the forks in the air, with a piece of machinery on them. As I was driving, the forks were loaded with a piece of machinery, and the fork lift came forward because of the broken top link, came forward, pinning me to the steering wheel, but I was able to get off the tractor. Ribs are a little sore, but nothing broken. Well today, I went and borrowed my neighbours loader tractor, to unload the fork lift, and to pull it back to where it was supposed to be, off the tractor seat. I was OK with getting the fork lift off the seat of tractor, and while standing on the platform of the tractor, I shoved the clutch in to start it up. As I didn't know, that the tractor was in first gear, as I let the clutch out, the fork lift came forward, over the seat again, and knocked me flying off the platform of the tractor, while it was in first gear. Had the wind knocked out of me, got up and climbed back onto the tractor to get it stopped. Once I got it stopped, and caught my breath, I was able to get the forklift off the seat of the tractor, and it lowered to the ground. I then unhooked the forklift attachment from the tractor, so I can be able to rebuild the top link for the three point hitch. My ribs are pretty soar, and I know that there is no broken ribs. I had a couple broken ribs before, and the pain was a lot worse than now. Just hurts when I move the wrong way. I'll be taking it easy for a few days. Just goes to show, that something can happen so quick while working with machinery. Take care, and be safe. Bruce.

Well getting prepared to prune some red oak roots so I can put in a patio. Then working on a gaint slab of red oak to flatten it so I can use one of them as a kitchen counter and the other a low laying coffee table. So a big job since I'll be using a router Also air drying about 1000 board feet of a red oak tree I felled, tree was 37-38" DBH, it was a mighty fall!

Somebody a while back was talking about their large black cherry. So check this one in a old growth Hemlock forest with a burl. I plan on posting the larger black cherry tree, this is a smaller version. So expect some more old growth black cherries. Last edited by Therrin; 12th August 2009 at 06:47 AM. There must be some old barns, drive in sheds in your area, that have been taken down for salvage. A lot of them have been built with beam structured, and the boards nailed onto them to in close the building. Check around for some salvage companies, and you just might find what you are looking for. Bruce.

Hey, not a problem. I even get lost some times around here as well. I ask questions to where I seen something, and there is Always, someone here to point you in the right direction, so don't hesitate to ask, even how silly you Think the question is. The dumbest question, is Always the one that is never asked. Just my opinion though. Bruce.

Hello all, Just signed on here. Live out in the country, and am trying to learn how to be a better steward to all of the trees I have planted. We don't have near enough of them and I don't want to lose any. I noticed a fellow Iowan on here (Treeluver). I've nose around the site a bit. I have A LOT to learn. |

SES put out a damaging wind warning, driving home I saw street trees down everywhere... almost drove into one while looking at another one :P

screwed up the engine on my bobcat about two weeks ago. didn't check the oil and .................knock,knock,knock. trying to get a buddy to rebuild it . hes excellent mechanic, other wise 5900 for a remanufactured one or 9000 for a new one. got to keep making those 650 payments every month as well. my fault. man i love that machine. i can pick up a gallon water jug in the handle and set it on the chute of the chipper still face up with the grapple, let alone branches and logs in the vermeer 1800. now i am picking the gallon water with my hand and setting it on the chipper with my hand. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Hi Guy's, Sorry I havnt been on here for a long time, so I had better fill you in on whats been going on out my way. Well I was busy last time I was on here and things went quiet for a while. My Grandmother fell ill, I drove eight hours straight to get there, just got there to see here at 7.30 that night and she passed at 7.30 the next morning. Wasnt a great time for a while, and work went on the back burner. At least I got to see her. Things out here have been up and down like a yoyo to say the least. Im finding myself doing more paperwork and chaseing work, more advertising ect all the time. Been doing alot of take downs, and big ones too, all over the place. Im getting more calls from further out places like Eulo, poulation 50 -100 people. Some from Charleville, five to six hours away and Roma. But just not enough work ther yet to justifi the travel, so waiting for more. Set up a full OH&S work booklet for my occasional part time workers and my company wich took some time. As well as a few other things. I did take advantage of the 50% goverment thing here and splashed out and bought a new Vermeer 600 TRAX Skid Steer. Well what a peice of machinery. I can not praise it enought, not one fault with it I thought. Although my groundy got right up me and wanted to know why I never bought one from the start, ha ha ha. Hmm I have noticed his weight is increasing ![]() It just makes work so much easier for us and I am saving heaps on bobcat hire a month, wich is really good. I have lost count on how many people I have told I will not top there trees, find someone else. Even local council organizations. I did get some really good picks in Surat of badly topped trees buy the local water board I think. They hired a cherry picker in to paint the water tower and hey presto, did all the Euc's in the treatment plant yard and council house. Shocking to look at I will try and post these. As well as some really stupid topping work at Taroom. I couldn't beleive it, COUNCIL I think, as they are all in a park picknic area and under kids play equipment . I feel like I M looseing the battle out here sometimes.Well I dropped off all of the equipent at Vermeer here on Saterday for a check and service. I am also doing my Cert III in complex climbing this week as well as Arieal rescue, Chipper and Stump Grinding Certs so no rest for the wicked. And I am hopeing to make the Vermeer Sherril tree day this Saterday wich is always good. I ????? wait for Arbor Camp this year, I hope some more of you make the effort and go!!!!!. Carn't think of anything elese at this stage but I will keep you posted. ![]()
