I actually am trying to start my own fuels mitigation business and I’m trying to figure out how much to charge for everything. There is such a broad rang in price differences that I really don't know where to start and be competitive. I have worked for the Forest Service on a Hot Shot crew for 6 years and enjoy cutting trees and brush. I'm also looking for good books that I can read to learn how to climb trees and cut--do you have any suggestions? |

All right Therrin, you've bugged me enough ya bastard, Ill bite...... ![]() Lets see, this week what was I up too, well a heck of a lot of climbing actually, climbed ROW(Right Of Way) all week long, mainly doing Conifer with a bit of birch side limbing, with a couple of limb walks thrown in for good measure. Also had to do a bit of overhang, that is where the limbs hang over the line, and have to either be rigged, generally tip rigged, or cut up into bits 12" long. This particular situation I was able to safely, using my hand saw to make the cuts, pull the limbs back and away from the line below, went like butter on a hot plate. More of the same to follow next week, thus is the life of a Utility ROW climber, at least I got my raise this week. Stay Safe. -Grais. |

| Yes, but it's a small one. A 24 v insulator for wiring for animals. Imagine a high voltage one with a finger thick hook in a trunk. That happens too! Leif. |

Work is up and down right now. Here in Orlando the market took a real hit after hurricane Charlie and his 2 friends. We lost so much foliage from the 3 hurricanes along with the increase in tree services from the cash flow that years later it still has not completely leveled out. I am doing all of my own work along with all of a larger companies tree work if that tells you anything. Supply and demand is starting to normalize though. Got a pretty nasty dead pine tree takedown on tuesday. Got to take the good with bad. |

Hey Newguy, I'm working on trying to get confirmation if MB really has Aids, I got tipped off he's a full blown aids case now, hosers might be trying to cover it up too so be careful where you get the answer if you do some searching. If he is you reckon he got it shooting up or "the other way"?

Bloody hell! Was sat eating me tea and suddenly all the electric goes off! Kids wonder whats happened and I have to get them ready for bed, its starting to get dark(doesnt it always happen at night!) and I got my head in the electric cupboard. We got plenty of electric on the meter but the fuse for the main board wouldnt stay ON, confused. I switch all the fuses on one by one and when I get to downstairs socets the main one pops off. Scratch me head a bit, kids conitnue to do my head in, demanding the TV be back on while wrecking the living room. Phone the missus at work and she tells me to unplug everything one at a time, then I realise its the microwave, the last thing I used! I checked the fuse in its plug with my meter, but its fine. Steam must have got into the works, its a goner. Bu##er! |

Hello, my latest project will be to drop some ash trees that have been killed by a bug called emerald borer. If I can I will post some pics soon as the weather breaks. Also here are a couple port-a-wraps I made. Hope the guys that invented these don't mind but I can't afford to buy at this time. Last edited by Therrin; 1st May 2009 at 08:29 AM. Reason: pic embed |

Hello everyone. I am not an arborist, like all of the folks here, but always thought of becoming a tree surgeon in high school. Instead, i became a webmaster, as i also love computers. But my love of nature and her beauty has always been a part of my life. My hubby and i have an acre and a half of land in South Florida, and I work almost every day trying to beautify it with gardens. Currently a water garden in a shady area. He is a fantastic artist and sculptor. I was attracted to your site by google sending me here to answer a question as to germinating mahogany seeds, then looked around, and liked what I saw I can learn a lot from you peeps!Nicci D ![]() How to Care for Frogs∼PollwogsWorldoffrogs.com Fine Artist & Sculptor in Florida∼Gino DiAVonti∼About the Artist |

Hi Pollywoggin, I look forward to some interesting new threads on your interest in trees and frogs! Lots of smart guys and gals here and they even let you know by e-mail that your post or interest is there without having to go to the site and wonder if you remember where it was. Pretty cool site after a day at work. Oh, I grew up on the Indian River in Oak Hill, Florida. Jeff |

We planted 7 Bracken Brown Beauty Magnolias in a very tight pool area yesterday and tried to finish this morning and it poured all day and everything dissolved into mud. These trees had close to 1000 lb. root balls and the Dingo with the ball squeezer amazed us on yet another job. I will post a pict or 2 tomorrow if not pouring again as predicted. Argghhh. What a wonderful plant. |

Thank you for your kind words Jeff. I CAN help peeps out with the frogs, and have extensively read up on what Aussies are going through with their frogs....as the rest of the world. The Aussies in many ways ARE ahead of the rest of the world of keeping track of their frogs dilemnas with ranavirus and chtridiomycosis...even have a frog hospital, the only one I have heard of in the world...and since many species live in trees, of course I am drawn to both. ...and am not bad at germinating a seed or two...or fifty. Very good Gardener I am, and know where to prune a tree, just no expert whatsoever at the actual large and more knowledgeable jobs I see these men doing ![]() Thank you again, hey, and I went to school in Lancaster, CA...Antelope Vallley ![]() Nicci |

| TV, I think you're right. If it were me, and I copied someone else's design that accurately, I probably wouldn't be ...silly...enough to post the evidence on an open public forum. Most criminals get caught because they brag about what they've done. (NOT saying you're a criminal, newtribe, but that's just how the cookie crumbles) PS. I'd have probably ground the welds a little more, re-filled them if necessary and re-ground them untill they were nice and smooooooth. Wouldn't want the rope to run or rub across something with that nubby texture constantly. ![]() ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And, a second thought.... dyed ropes aren't as strong as undyed ones (typically). The original manufacturers of that device (I THINK...) didn't paint them. Could that paint wear off into the sheath or fibers of the rope or rub under shock loading and friction and cause degredation in rope strength over time?
