Duncan, BC, eh?! We lived on Shawnigan Lake for 6 months......after we immigrated from Arkansas. I went to high school in Victoria, then moved back to the states. over 40 years ago now, sheesh. Spring? Maybe, but the forecast is calling for chance of snow again in the Puget Sound area next week....

It is supposed to be 50F here today. Think I heard a huge slab of ice and snow slide off the roof a few minutes ago. Work is comin in in spurts. Time to put that BC 2000 to work swallowing up the dead and wounded. (ice storm, hurricane)

What I am working with now is snow. S-N-O-W! Lots of it. Though, I shouldn't complain, I see you australiens have a real tough time. Fire, flood, crocs and snakes. And all at the same time. World isn't fair, and has never been. Back to my own snow. I have to remove it from my roofs. I have calculated the weight to 120-130 kg pr square meter. That means a load of about 15 tons on a normal bungalow roof. How much weight my old roofs may stand is impossible to know. If the roof comes down, I'll know. So, I have to remove some of it to be sure. The lower half of the snow is hard and heavy, nearly like ice. ![]() Leif. |

Beautiful place you have there Leif, I'm up and at it early today painting another side of my house before it hits the expected 44C. again today! The paint dries in the tray at that temp, and frankly isn't much fun.. Dano |

Working on moving! Looks like I'll be ending up in Bakersfield, Ca. At least there's plenty of palms up there. And cows.... lots and lots of cows...whew. Selling my travel trailers, selling some tools and equipment... trying to downsize my holdings for "city living". Ugh. Lemme know if anyone works out there. |

Thanks for reply. I don't live in these houses. It is the home of my mother who is dead now. I keep the place because I love it and have a lot of good memories from there. Besides that, I like to have a place where I may work in the wood and with wood. But keeping such a place demands a lot of work too. I have built a new house few minutes of driving from Bjoerndalen. You may see a bit of this area in the thread My place/Picture forum. The houses are old, built in a time when building codes were not invented. Besides that, woodworms have eaten an unknown ammount of wood. Thus I have no idea about the strength of the construction. Concerning this icy snow: After a heavy snowfall in january, we got rain and very wet snow. This has frosen, and hurts my back when I must shovel it away. Leif.

Been doing a few forestry jobs nowadays... Work is pouring in though. We had a real rough time in the last few months with our new store. But now the time has come to relax a little bit again and therefore, I'll be here way more often... Nice to see ya"ll back after all this time. Can someone please get me up to speed about all those things that happened out here? hey Eric... things look pretty FUBAR in OZ... But I've got an idea... if we could tilt australia just a little bit, all that water would flow to the other side and wipe out those huge forest fires wouldn't it? |

What sort of tree was that, sort of whitish coloured bark. Was it a euc? Hey imagine, some greenie councils in the fire zone only gave 6m around the house as a tree clearing zone, that tree be about on the limit of that.

gidday there tree world guys n gals? just a new boy round here. have been in business for myself for 6 months doing tree work. mostly private stuff. got on here to try to find out about formal quals relating to tre surgery, arboriculture as it is still a fledgling thing here in Western australia. i notice that over East one needs a cert 111 in arboriculture to be considered for employment. as a ex services guy i do know that always the proof is in the pudding and as such i can climb competently and as such am streets ahead of all the bull dust operators out there. ok look forward to gaining knowledge here, regards Robbie:

Well on Monday I did a garden job out of town, dropped four Washington Cotton palms around a pool and ground them out and did a few other stumps around town.Packed my bag and drove 120km's to Dirranbandi for the night. Today I ground out a two meter rotton Bottle Tree stump in dirrin, got to be the worst smell ever.Drove back St George and removed a large Doolen tree between 2 houses, then the neighbor's wanted a dead one done so jump the fence and did that as well.Went and had a look a another job and called it quites at 6pm. Tomorrow off to Brisbane, Yipeeeeeeeee. The drive sucks 8-9 hours. And next week I do my course in EWP training yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
