Tree Machine, Jim, i remember you mentioning some wooden business cards once upon a time. There was a lot of interest but it ended up coming to nothing. What happened to that...

Jim here's the link TM put up for the company that makes the wood cards http://cardsofwood.com/woodbuscard.htm basically you can contact them via email, give them your artwork logos etc actually placing an order isn't online as far as I can tell. They are curently updating their website (they have a notice up!) so some of the functions don't ork as well as they should but be worth emailing them.

I'll e-mail them again. I have already e-mailed them, letting them know both that I need to order new cards, and that we'd genuinely enjoy to learn about the microveneer process. Boa and John both have the right link. If my memory serves me right, microveneer is a patented process, and Cards of Wood are the only ones out there doing this. Each card is two thicknesses of microveneer laminated together. That keeps the cards from splitting along the grain lines. On some, there is a super-thin clear plastic laminate on the back. I have always just bought 8-1/2 by 11 sheets of various species and cut them up myself. I'm down to my last 4 sheets (10 cards per sheet). I need to change my art, so Tree Machine says Tree Machine, Inc. My accountant tells me these are the rules. I did happent to ge tthe president's name and was able to e-mail him directly, here goes the summon.... Mr Lenderlink of Cards of Wood, we summon thee forward. Steppeth forward and speaketh of thine microveneer. Hitherto and therefore without and yada yada. Are you out there, Mr Lenderlink? Click, click. Helloooooo, click click.... |

Hey TM, What do you mean you are cutting up your own sheets? Do you buy blanks and do it yourself or something??

I've got another image of the front, printed side, as a sheet of ten uncut cards. Ahhh, here's one better. Here's a blank sheet of maple nect to the printed cedars. These 7 sheets are all the cards I have left. I hand them out sparingly, but still, dangerously low. Mr Lenderlink, are you out there??? yooo hooo, Mr. Lenderlink, click, click |

How do you print on that stuff at home?

I don't, at home. I take them to a normal printing press and they run through like cardstock. I provide them with the art. I cut them up at home kind of on an as-needed basis. Since the sheets are stored stacked and sort of sealed, the cedar stays fresh and retains it's color. Otherwise the cedar oxidizes and mutes in color. Here they are. ![]() Interesting story behind this last order of card sheets. I ordered my normal variety of species, but mostly cedar. I asked really nicely of she could hand-pick from the cedar, all the really wild grain figures. Amazing what she got me. Some of the sheets would just make you drool. I take them to my printer, I tell him, THIS is the side to be printed on. Of course, he printed on the other side. I can see how both sides could look the same to someone who's not into wood. It still made a great card, and the backsides of my cards are fabulous. |

Yea Boa, but what makes them REALLY special is that they're so cool, people won't throw them away. They'll put this card in a special place. They always know where you are when any one of their friends mentions needing a treeguy. If a good client offers to pass my cards along, I will giive him only three, one for him and two friends. I don't cast these cards to the wind. I hand them out very sparingly. ![]() http://www.treeworld.info/attachment...1&d=1179239677 |

Wow TM those are sweet cards! If the arboriculture market wasn't as low as it is in Sydney, I'd definately be handing out them cards rather then business card/flyers.

I hand these out sparingly, full colour printed on a thick 300gsm card. It's tough when you need to have the best image, tools, practices and be the cheapest to get most of the work.

These cards seem really top class, do you have any more pictures? Ever since I saw MD's I've been fascinated with the foiled cards. Do you do foiled cards? If so how do you foil them onto the wood? Do you have any pictures of this? I'm interested in purchasing some of these to handout to my more prospective quotes/clients. What would a lot of 100 cost me aswell as shipping?

The wood looks nice. I also but individual magnets the size of business cards from Staples here, in packages of 50 or 100, and put them on some business cards so people can stick them on a refrigerator or file cabinet. That might look nice with the wood ones too. If you try the magnets, line them up with the card on a straight flat surface because once they touch at all, they really can't be pulled apart - not with card stock anyway. |

Ya know what....? There is so much interest in these cards, questions I can't answer. This may be a time to invite a rep from Cards of Wood here into the thread. Does this sound like a good idea? I'll get back to you all with the cool wood-card pictures this evening. | |

OK, Ok, quit your drooling. Just know these ARE available. I have called the company and asked it they'll ship international. They will. I said, "Even Australia?" "Yes, even Australia." Ok, let me introduce these pictures. I mentioned earlier that I bought mixed species of page-size sheets of microveneer, Then cut them up as needed. 50 sheets of 10 each makes 500 cards, enough for me for years. That's a very small run for a printer, and I thought I was going to be saving myself some money, but it was really the same cost. I DO enjoy cutting up the cards, but I also do not recommend it and I'll get to why in a few. |

You see, I have to carve a space on my desk top, cross-cut the sheets into these strips. You can do two sheets at once. |
