Do websites really bring in that much work? my old site is down, but i've had a website for years, i'm not convinced websites bring in that much work if any!

Depends on where you live, and how your site is designed. Work can be gained from the internet, but other ways also.

I'm sending a pagelink PM to you for a page of mine which is still online, but pulled from my site menu.

Websites work.

They add credibility to your business, can display certificates, videos etc. You can direct people there with links, emails etc.

As far as them bringing you business, well that depends on ...

... what your customers are searching

... how they searching it (Google, Yahoo, Craigslist, YellowPages Online etc)

... and how your site ranks/sits in those places.
