Do websites really bring in that much work? my old site is down, but i've had a website for years, i'm not convinced websites bring in that much work if any!

Websites work. They add credibility to your business, can display certificates, videos etc. You can direct people there with links, emails etc. As far as them bringing you business, well that depends on ... ... what your customers are searching ... how they searching it (Google, Yahoo, Craigslist, YellowPages Online etc) ... and how your site ranks/sits in those places.
