Default Washingtonia palm stripping..

Have a customer who has a 5-6 metre washingtonia palm in his backyard who i annually tidy up for him (dead fronds and seeds) but he has approached me about somehow shaving it back to a bare post up to the live fronds up the top. I have seen it on these particular palms before but have never seen anyone actually doing it. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated..

Cheers..

... shit job!

They want all the old petioles removed, there's this hairy messy stuff that will make you cough, it's a bad job, real bad, rip it off and then try to have a clean trunk.

And you are not supposed to spike climb the filthy pole either.

I'd rather go do something else, it's like janitorial duties for an environmental engineer.

Like Eric said, nasty job!

Which species is it Brocky, Washingtonia Filifera or Washingtonia Robusta? If its a Robusta, its a very nasty job! I'd walk away mate.

spiking a washy is a bad idea. your better off SRT. and use a sharp razorblade box cutter to remove those bastid petioles that wont come loose. have fun! dont forget to take pics

I bet it's a robusta.

Usually people try to retain that criss/cross looking trunk, but a close shave job .... good bloody luck.
