Afternoon colleagues,
There is some wonderful conversation here, all thoughts can stimulate and are generally welcomed and appreciated (professionally and privately) Less use of emotive language would indicate that we treat each other with some gentleness.

Argh, we go back a while and know each others angles, you tend to build up a thick hide over time when on these forums, can be brutal, and this one is tame compared to some others.

The spontaneity, the instant publication, the immediate response times and inability of censorship in the first instance makes for good rebuttle, next best thing to face to face, simply cant be repeated in print media so over time you get to understand it.

Hey, I'll string together the list for me so far.

Uneducated blue collar redneck wanker gay environmentalist bitch shiny assed knob. Quite a mouthful but that's what I have been called. And I tend to do things right so imagine what they'd call the hacks of the industry?!

Might want to witness the indoctrination of one "Aerial" recently. Some less than delicate treatment of individuals can be deserved and enlightening, even educational for the recipient.

All over our pathetic liberal new country a movement has been festering described as "stop the bullying" in our schools. What this entails is a whiny, wimpy arrogant, spoiled snotty nosed little young student can say virtually anything he so pleases or his daddy lawyer will sue the school if the brat gets the fat lip/bloody nose he so much deserved/needed for his future development. You can imagine the fine outstanding character this is to deal with in the mature form.

Hey, I have lil kids and I can tell you some of these 5 year olds at school have one heck of a gob on them! Times have changed a lot. Teachers get in trouble for raising their voice at kids or copping them off, it's a huge problem called discipline and lack of.

I agree with Stav; a little less emotive language would not hurt the process.

I just got called a "mediocre asperational arborist who tags along on the achievements of others" by a guy whose product I promoted, when others dissed it. No gratitude in his attitude.

Arborbolts are still a good product, despite their creator.

Ha ha ha C'mon down!!!! They must have been searching for that phrase for some time.....sadly the grammer is a tad confusing, as well as the spelling??? Is it the asperational aspect referring to your breathing??? or did they mean aspirational
Even then I'm confused do they mean you aspire to be mediocre, or aspire to be an arborist, the way they have constructed the scentence sounds like they are saying you are not very good at aspiring to be an arborist, which is fine since you are an Arborist and a successful one at that.

Some people are funny though eh??

back to the tree. in the forestry end of it we refer to that as a snag. if my bull bucker comes and checks my quarter and see's something like that left when i have space to fall it i get fired. i'll get one warning on something like that, but if it's that big and leaning that hard it's a serious life threat. it's beautiful, and interesting to see. it's similar to the "jin" affect in a bonsai, but non the less it is a hazard. one of the reason that stanley park has had it's problems are due to the fact that it is an unprotected old growth forest. if we selectively logged it to remove some of the bigger stems and maintained it the destruction wouldn't have happened.

Its an interesting angle there chadd, over here the better organised state forestry depts have incorporated what we now understand about the importance of habitat to the longterm health of the ecology of an area to preserve snags (where targets permit, which is almost everywhere in big blocks)....Shame the same is not true where you are.

Not suggesting we still don't have major troubles in commercial forestry...we certainly do, but slowly things are changing...party and personal politics tends to make things even slower!

we leave a large amount of wildlife tree patches, we also do alot of retention, but any where in which we work snags must be down. the rotor wash from the birds that pick up the logs will blow them over without question. there is alot done to preserve habitats, but a danger is a danger.

Hmmm heli work....can't say I have ever seen that in the flesh, but have a bit of experience with choppers outside of tree work and yes the down draft from even a small huey is hard to believe, sure I accept the need to remove snags under such conditions...no problem.

Been watching heli logging on documentaries on tv. Real interesting. Witnessed giant towers moved around during the war in VNam. Even have heard of large decurrent trees being picked apart by a skycrane. Recently bid a job with that in mind last year (didn't get it). It would seem dangerous to work under such wind forces. Makes sense to remove these trees prior to work.

if you were watching the documentary on discovery channel, i think its called "what is this" or something similar, that was my crew. the helicopters are green, with the exception of one blue one. it was at a place called bachelor lake, and the heli was hayes, the timber was owned by triumph timber. if it was a different documentary what was it called, i would be interested to see it.

I think that was the one I saw. Flying timber to a barge and a loader working the logs around after it left. Trying to hurry before the chopper got back. I think it may have even been raining. Looked like organized chaos. Very organized.
