Hi can anyone advise me on weather i have enough qualifications and experience to qualify for a cert 3 arborist, i have 8 NPTC certs as i live in the uk. they range from CS30,basis chainsaw maintenance, to CS41 which is sectioning/lowering plus electrical certs as i've worked in the utility arb industry for 10yrs. I'm currently going through the TRA and i'm having to write a full essay on my employment history which im slowly working through, i have a potential offer on the plate for a job in sydney but i'm worried that i dont have the correct certs as level 3 includes horticulture see certs below CS30 maintain chainsaw CS31A fell small conifer CS31B lell small broadleaf CS37 breakdown medium broadleaf CS38 climb trees and perform aerial rescue CS39 operate a chainsaw from a rope and harness CS40 pruning operations, CS41 dismantling operations PA1 Pesticides foundation module PA6 hand held application spraying PA6A hand held application hydraulic nozzle and rotary atomizer EA1 electrical awareness UA1 prune trees around electrical lines UA2i tree species recognition UA2ii prune trees (ground) units 1,2,3 in woodchipper operations IPAF mobile work platform first aid and manual handling are there any others i need? cheers steve |

Hi steve, Your best bet to see if you meet the guidelines for a cert 3 Arborist here in Australia is to get in contact with a training authority the most common is TAFE down here. They should be able to tell you if the qualifications match up or if you need to do some sort of bridging course. Having said this you guys that have trained in the UK have a good standard of work and training generally speaking. I am aware that like all places you have the dodgy operators there to but if you have been given qualifications then you are on the right track. I dont think you will have to much trouble getting qualification over here. Good luck. |

Hi stan Thanks for that will check it out, I've work hard over the past few years to try and lift The profile of utility arborist in the uk, we do get a bad rap now and again, managed to get A nice write up in the arb association a few years back, so its nice to know that we're thought To be good out in Australia too Cheers steve |
