Compared to the size of the house that's a large tree for sure. I'd love to see more pics of the damage done, also I wonder why they didn't try to get an arborist report done? Maybe they did and arbs wouldn't do it???

My city council would have probably evicted the homeowner and demolished the house. I’m not kidding! |

God these stories are getting annoying, you can see it from both sides of the fence. We need some sort of rule where if you want to cut down a mature tree you must offset it with the correct number of trees, either on your property or somewhere else.

| Yeah, it's often a condition of the permit approval. It doesn't mean you can just cut down anything as long as you replace it, but most removal permits do require that you replant.

Its mostly for developers, not all councils require permits for residential works.

Here in Toronto, if you cut a tree down (private, residential) they expect at least one more to replace it - sometimes several (depends on the official) and the tree needs to guaranteed for 5 years or more until it reaches 30 cm limit..If it dies, a replacement is required, If you choose not to plant a tree on your land, you pay the city $600 and they plant a tree in one of the parks., Commercial developers usually have to plant more trees.
