Tree lopper fined

A WOODPARK resident has been fined more than $10,000 in Parramatta Local Court over the illegal lopping of a neighbour's Jacaranda tree.

Holroyd Council initiated the legal action following the illegal lopping in 2007.

The Jacaranda tree, between 60 and 70-years-old, in a Fairfield Road property was one of the largest Jacaranda trees in Holroyd and had a canopy span of about 18metres and was 16metres tall.

The illegal lopping reduced the tree in size by one third. Anyone who is unsure about whether approval is needed to prune or remove a tree should call the landscape and tree management unit on 98409840.

And the rest of the story

Neighbours brawl over branch | The Daily Telegraph

SYDNEY showed its ugly side yesterday, with police called to an alleged assault involving two neighbours fighting over a tree.

Peter Choate was allegedly pushed to the ground while taking pictures of a neighbour he claims chopped branches from a jacaranda tree on his western Sydney property.

It follows another neighbourhood dispute in Wahroonga, on the North Shore, in which a couple's home was pelted with eggs and plants ripped out following complaints about the lilac colour of their fence.

Police and ambulance officers were called to Fairfield Rd, Woodpark, about 9am yesterday after Mr Choate fell to the ground while allegedly grappling for his camera following a dispute with a new next-door neighbour.

He said he had been taking photos of three men loading tree branches - which he said were lopped from a large jacaranda on his property - into a truck when he was confronted by two men who tried to grab his camera.

Ambulance officers were initially told it was an assault of a council officer but when they arrived at the scene Mr Choate was uninjured and declined treatment.

Police yesterday said no action would be taken as a witness did not want to give a statement and those involved gave different versions.

Mr Choate, who divides his time between a Guildford apartment and the Woodpark house, said he discovered branches from the tree had been lopped last Sunday.

He reported it to Holroyd City Council on Wednesday as an illegal pruning.

Oh s---, I know that tree, opposite Albert St cnr. I quoted it, but told them they would need Council permission & they probably wouldn't get it. That was about 2 years ago, $10,000,

No Samoans in Guilford, Mustaffa & his cousins drove them out.

Wow, they sure did a job on it. It reached well over the driveway, that's the reason they wanted it gone, dropping flowers on the new concrete.

sorry mate dont get me wrong as i do have some mates who are samoan and Ive even got them in me family, I was just talking bout the ones that have been going round lopping trees in a bad way and ripping people big times that we have been seeing in these thread. there is no need for that as it is ripping us guys off too as well as yourself who can do better jobs and keep the clients happy at a reasonable cost
