Default Toxic trees??

Had a call from a landscaper friend looking for info on Non Toxic trees. He is asked to plant several trees and do the landscaping around a new day care center for children. I did a search and did not find to much info.Does anyone know of any books or sites that would be helpfull.

Not right off hand but around here the white oleander is poisonous.I were a mask over my mouth and nose while cutting it so it doesn't have a chance to get inside me.I know its just the leaves that are poisonous but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks NG the concern would be with the children maybe eating the leaves. Specifically,Crimson King, Dogwood, and a few Oaks in the mix.

Around here the chokecherry is toxic to horses and other animals when the leaves are wilted.

Try contacting one of your Government Agencies....Poisons Information Service, Health Department, Botanic Gardens or Herbarium. They usually put out fact sheets. Failing this, you could try this web site...

Childsafety Australia - Poisonous Plants

Treerat, look up your local Poison Control center in the phone book... They will have all the info on poisonous plants/trees in your area. They will also have a listing of toxic plants available at stores.... after all they need to know how to diagnose and treat a wide range of poisons.

I remember a few years back here in Florida someone figured out that angels trumpet flowers make a Hallucinogenic tea, unfortunately it was also very easy to overdose and a bunch of kids wound up in the hospital. These trees were planted all over for their beautiful flowers, I guess the landscaper didn't have the foresight to look up the poison control center.
