Default Street Trees.

Is it just me or can anyone else see something wrong here.

This street is about 1km long in a new subdivision area in Baulkham Hills Shire. It was an old farming area. Second pic is opposite the first one.

I agree, dumb is an apt description. How many of these will survive being hit by cars?

There doing the same thing in Stanhope Gardens, over the ridge. All it takes is a little distraction to near on hit these things. They get "The Bozo Award" from me.
There's plenty of room in the west, no need for this

It must be one of those Obstacle Courses, for doing a Road Test for getting a Driver's Licence, or for a Good game of Chicken. Bruce.

Morton Bay Fig, that's what they planted.

Ficus macrophylla - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It is best known for its beautiful buttress roots, which are also known for damaging municipal footpaths.

I bet it was the bloody engineer or architects idea to plant them there like that with THAT species. In my experience, the two above professions tend to over ride any council decisions (no matter how logical they may seem...) quite even possibly the mayors too...

I think you're right, it was raining and I just thought they were figs like the old ones from the farm. They had gums in the other streets.

Even then I've seen some big roots on Magnolias.

Did you ever as a kid be cycling along reading the latest comic magazine and plough straight into a pole or something?

Come on, dont BS, your riding along then BAM, bloody pole or fire hydrant!

It's gonna happen, but could be debated as a traffic calming device however putting them both sides of the road makes it a little more hairy especially if a truck is coming the other way and you got the sun in your eyes.

WTH! You Aussies are a strange lot. You always plant your trees out in the street like that?

Goofballs. The street is for driving in.

Btw, whats up with the limb on this tree? Is that normal?

When cars park people are going to avoid them forcing oncoming traffic to swerve and thats when it will happen, BAM, bye bye tree.

The way that estate is it's the only place you could plant them, wall to wall houses. Only reason I was there was the main road was blocked and I was trying to find a way around it.

I couldn't believe the place had changed so much. And that side of the road is Blacktown Council not Baulkham Hills, they would have put a townhouse there not a tree.

Don't forget the garbage trucks, hope there're better drivers than the ones around here.

Ekka, At first glance I had thought there was a huge ingrown crack on the underside of that branch. But now that I look at it it's prolly just a shadow.

I forgot about garbage trucks....mail carriers, tow trucks, street sweepers. Might not be so bad if you're trying to shake off a hot pursuit though.

Actually it's water. There was some heavy rain for a while [reason for the closed road] and it was just starting to run down the branches.

The black spots on the lowest branch on the right are wet spots. I had to zoom another pic to see it clearly.

Now I'm not posting any more pics until I do that first.
