| this daniel guy seems a bit "out there". he always contradicts himself in his videos. in this video he talks about how you are able to control a tree by leaving a wider hing on one side. he then cuts it and the tree and lands WAY off from the cone where he aims it. he even takes the time to pull out a T square . eric wanna chime in a bit and tell us how to properly steer a tree?

The tree Dan fell went with the 'head' weight, he looked to have left bugger all hinge wood - once the hinge is cut away then its just a uncontrolled piece of tree following the weight/direction dictated by the predominant weight up higher in the head of the tree. Wedges are handy, but any falling to far from the natural direction dictated by head weight is best/safest done with a steel cable and vehicle IMO. If in any doubt at all pull them over. |

that wasnt a hinge, it was a HINGE FAILURE. the tree rotated - fail. look carefully, i can be bothered picking the vid to pieces. Lot of Ol' Dan's videos are misplaced science (ie he doesnt know what the hell causes it he just knows it "works" even though it isnt "working") ....end rant. |
