| Did this a couple of days ago and I'm so proud of myself! Client wanted to lop this Yellow Box one metre inside the fence and we all know what happens to box trees when you lop them....... Anyway sent him an emailed report with a link to this site and to the ansi standard. He was suitably impressed and gave me the green light for a couple of hours of fun work. | Got a little excited about a cut I saw film of so I decided to have a go myself. Just so you know, I only use a standard scarf and a hauling rope on sticks. Anything I cannot control like that gets climbed and blocked. But I just had to give it a go......... Cypress Cut Vertical.JPG Cypress log and stump.JPG Now I know the bore cut was out of level but fair go, it was my first time and was a little excited! Still I like the result and other than my groundie ending up on his backside when the stick let go it was a great success. Come to think of it, my groundie spends a lot of time lying down anyway..... Just think, I read about a safer cutting technique in a thread and apply it the next day. That speaks volumes to the education process that occurs when you get open minded professionals together in a public forum. ![]() |

| Hey all, I havent been online much. Been doing lots of palms lately. YUCK! F'ing things. I have lots of pictures to post of palm work but need to wait till my internet is back up cuz I'm on a friend's computer. Ended up going out to a previous client's house at 11pm the other night. Edison was called out to do line work. Some deadwood fell and knocked out the lines across the clients yard and the neib's yard. We donned headlamps, talked to the edison crew first, then made sure we had our procedures down including yelling out "clear" everytime I dropped anything from the tree. (Edison is the power co out here) They were in to do the job that night, and arranged for me to show up so they could drop the remaining lines, let me go up and remove all the other deadwood, and then they'd string up new lines. Apparently they didnt want to string up new lines under a bunch of deadwood that was still left. Go figure. So that was kinda fun. Got the foreman's celly number and we got on pretty well just chatting and such. He said if I ever have a job with lines under it, give him a call and schedule a time and he'd come out with his crew and drop everything before the job, then restring it afterwards. PRETTY COOL!!!! woohoo for making contacts!

| And there's MORE! But that page was getting long. Been doing lots and lots of FIREWOOD lately. Ugh. I'm selling in 1/2 cord increments right now (4'x4'x4'). I made a box for the back of my truck and it'll take a half cord pretty nicely but an entire cord is too much weight/volume for my little truck. I've got rates all set up for self pickup, and for delivery, but 99% of the work now has been delilvery. Some of them out to 50 miles. I do $20 for delivery of 1/2 cord within 5 miles + 50 cents a mile outside of that. I've got another 3 or 4 cords split so far, and another...oh, maybe 9 cords of wood that is waiting to be processed. Borrowed a splitter from a friend of mine. The thing is homebuilt and its MASSIVE. 4" diameter ram on it, it goes through just about anything. We were putting rounds over 5 foot in diameter under it and it just plowed right through them. I built a couple half-cord boxes so that I can fill them and I know what's what as far as pickup and delivery goes, and it helps for sorting out mixed softwood and mixed hardwood loads. All in all I've been putting in a ton of work lately, and have a fulltime employee goin at it as well. It's good work though and deliveries have been regular and more orders are coming in. We just started it up 2 weeks ago, so all is going well. How about you guys? Lots of firewood stuff goin on?
