Taking out a small chestnut, about 20 foot, so only using an adjustable lanyard.
Started raining and got a bit slippery. Skidded out and smaked a stob on the way. Bust same rib as last year.
Should have used my spikes.

Snotted a huge myrtle today, it was a significant tree but H.O. had permission to remove as they are demolishing the house and rebuilding.

Not much foliage (only a trailer load) but man did this thing have the biggest trunk.
I reckon we took about 2 1/2 tons of wood away.
(all of it moved by hand)
Very tight confines every bloody twig had to be roped out, what a PIA.
Add to that it was 34 degrees here today.

I knew the trunk was going to be a challenge as i normally only run a 26" bar on my 066, so i went to my local stihl dealer yesterday to look at buying a new 36" bar & chain. As luck would have it he had a s/h bar that was near new.
I picked it up with a new chain for $180.
(I think thats a bargain)

Anyway the 066 made short work of the trunk, but hell was it heavy with that long bar.

Here's yours truly up the tree

and heres a pic of the stump, the trunk basically went straight up to about the level of the gutters.
I forgot to measure the DBH, so use the bar as a guide.

Suffice to say i was glad to get home to a well earned Coopers pale ale, and a swim in the pool.

Storms are great for us!

I heard a rumour, cant finger it though.

Insurance companies are trying to get impact from trees OFF THEIR POLICIES.

Yep, apparently govt is holding it up. This is based on the large cost of claims they experience from trees. Now often there's middle ground ... maybe they have been reading my posts. If this rumour is true it would mean a plethora of removals and some responsibility for managing trees instead of letting them fail and "claim it on insurance".

Great pic mate. Where you had your highline, was that hooked above a stub? Just wondering if it slid' down at all?

On another note, I can donate a hard hat to you if you wish? What colour you want? Yellow, White or Orange? I'll pay the postage too

Trev, that gum is indeed a doomed one. The customer is living in total and utter fear of that thing. Alot of dead wood coming down, aswell as the branch break out... The grass near the base is about knee height and it is the thickest kind of grass (Gotta take the bloody mower to work to knock it down... Good thing my dad just bought himself a 4.5hp push along not to long ago)... She doesn't go in her backyard cause' of it.

Ekka, I certainly hope that is true. Kind of wish I was lvl 5 already so I could try and monopolize on the situation (Tree Care & Management that is).

violent wet season storms up here are pretty common, across the road from my place several african mahogany trees approx 20 metres high twisted off at the base on wednesday,a few years ago i had an insurance co request a quote to remove an african mahogany tree off the fence, just the bit on the fence never mind the 15 metres on both sides of the fence, they reckoned the rest was the two homeowners problem, another little catch is they wont pay to have upturned stumps ground out or removed, its a joke

Been splitting wood all morning. Hired a couple guys to help me out, but its pouring buckets of rain over here right now. I just sent the guys home. Everyone was soaked through and muddy and cold.

I don't really mind workin in the rain, but at what little I was payin them just to help me with the wood, I'm sure it wasn't worth it to them. <shrugs>
