Took down two Alexandra palms today next to a pool... Both were about 8-10 metres tall... Got up the second one and one of my spikes went all the way in with a slush ... Bit scary... I climbed round' the back of it and proceeded with caution.

Then a neighbour came walking down after a quote for a Spotty gum and a Norfolk island pine...

and after all that we just beat the rain

I cut down 7 Alex palms today, 3 climbs.

What's the deal with the slush in there, top dead, maybe drought or lightening strike.

My guess it was from the drought... I dissected it and it was just a little patch at that certain part of the palm.

Got up to rain today. Looks like I'll be working on saterday. Got a call yesterday to remove five cocount palms. I show up, and she just wants them pruned before any storms come. I bid 425.00. Two of them are loaded with fruit. Will hear if I get the job next week.

Actually did a removal today.

Haven't done one of those in quite a while.

No climbing though, since I don't climb anymore.

Just a little tree by your standards. Just a 12" dbh Red Maple about 40' high in the front yard.

It was a bit interesting. I was going to do it yesterday, but had a doctor appointment and saved it for today (I rarely work Saturday).

Anyhow, this is the one weekend in the year (and I did not know this) that the entire town of Jacksonville virtually becomes a giant yard / garage sale.

The quiet neighboor hood had dozens of people roaming the streets. So I had planned on 1.5 hours to get this done. Instead, I took 3 hours to move slowly and double check everything, including getting help to send pedestrians to the other side of the street until I dropped the tree.

Got a nice handful of firewood for my camping pile. Been a while since I had the wedges out of the toolbox.

Got back from Adelaide late yesterday (sometimes the distances envolved in Oz can really wear you down!) after attending the Treenet symposium and then a day at Waite Arboretum (doing QTRA update). Have taken almost 300 pics.......really enjoyed myself!!

Any of you Arb people in SA, or elsewher being able to afford the trip, really must get yourselves down to the Treenet event every year 2 days in Sept at the Wine Centre, without any doubt one of the best planned series of presentations relating to critical tree management issues in Oz...they have a web site from which you can download all the past papers, and find out much, much more about Treenet and what you can do to advance Urban Arboriculture in our country.

Hi All,
Well on friday we deadwooded some blue gums, and tallow woods at Ryde Tafe, It was a good day until those storm cells came screaming over us. I just came down for a break and John was up the trees when it hit, he just finnished lowering out a small limb when it hit, Fast and furious terrential rain and 80 K's winds lasted for about 35 mins.
That was our day!

How did your's go ??
