Default small truck for tree company

looking to upsize. i dont have a CDL so anything over 26,000lbs GVW wont work for me.
i was looking into the ford F550 and chevy 3500-4500 range with a dump bed. whats reliable? i dont mind having to build a higher box on a stocker dump bed. i was thinking about buying like a Ford F550 with a dumping flat bed and just building larger removable racks on the sides for holding chips and then have the capability to take the rails off for loading logs with our grapple.
do any of you run a similar set up? id love to see pics of your small chip trucks

Those trucks just seem like a waste of space with the cab behind the engine instead of on top of the engine like other trucks, you could be adding an extra metre or more to your tray length. A small Isuzu and Mitsubishi will serve you well.

This is my back up wood removing truck with 4 bolts the chip bin is off,Has 2 lifting lugs up top holds a good load.

Its a Mitsubishi FK 417 6cylinder diesel 5 speed goes well.

Its carted heaps of timber away from jobs.

My little truck ('85 F350) gets me into properties with clearance issues and doesn't sink into the lawn, though it needs to be emptied a couple of times a day!

The headboard was solid so I had the sides made up fix to that and the dropsides with a few heavy pins and bolts, the top has 3 cross bars fitted by pins and the cover is HD shade cloth.

The whole thing can be removed in about ten mins, cost was about A$1600

The tipper bed is from and old Inter and apparently has been through 3 trucks!

The tray is 3mx2.2m, I made the sides 1.5m high, thats 9.9 cubes !

I try to avoid long trips with a load, dont want to get weighed! Though most of my clients keep the chip anyway.

Good luck!
