I reckon just destruction and attention. Likely had a bad childhood yada yada yada.

Carnegie tree killer strikes six times

RESIDENTS of a Carnegie street are pleading with a serial tree killer to stop giving their trees the chop.

The vandal has struck six times over the past 18 months, sawing through the native trees’ trunk or ripping it out from its roots in the Walnut St nature strip.

Glen Eira Council has replanted a tree in its place after the worst attacks.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said neighbours were baffled why anyone would harm the tree, as it did not block any views or drop leaves.

“Someone is going out of their way, bringing tools and using a saw in the middle of the night,” she said.

“It’s someone with a real agenda.”

In a last ditch attempt, residents have attached a letter to the tree, appealing to the attacker to “please stop”.

“If you are really set on destruction, I’ve got plenty of weeds you can kill,” the note says.

Council spokesman Paul Burke said the council had received three reports of the tree being vandalised.

It was replanted after the first incident in July but an arborist decided it could be saved after an attack in November.

The damaged tree will be removed in the next two weeks, Mr Burke said.

“Because it’s been vandalised so many times we probably won’t be immediately replacing it,” he said.

oHH a new tree, there was a thread a while ago about protection for new trees. After our last planting run we have had at least a dozen calls where entire streets have had the new trees snapped in half. The story had me a little confused though until I saw the picture, thought it was more mature trees being attacked. I'm surprised this is the first time I've seen this kind of thing in the news though.

You can guarantee this is either a bored teenager or a local who is going to lose a view, its a real pity they cant install a street camera to catch the people in the act, but the vandalism of trees is low on the police radar compared to say a 50 year old man doing 52ks in a 50k zone.

Yah got that right I call police about vandalism and get nuthin, once even a NQR bloke was axing a tree for quite some time I called n and they reckon it twas a LG matter. But he's got an Axe in his hand. Nup to busy click.
Other time a tree was poisoned the copper was more interested askin on how to do it as wanted to kill his neighbors tree, true dinks.
Few years back kid was chopppin trees with a panga but took to a tree outside a coppers home. You guessed it was pursued till caught a few week later.

Yeah I know they got lota stuff on but seem to pick n choose what matters to them way to often.

In the case of vandals I say bring on back the town stocks, chuck caught n guilty in these few days will bend their minds straight and do a ton of discouragement to all others.

The government wanted to be a serial tree killer.
They planned on killing all the trees in an area the size of 258,000 football fields.

There was one thing they didn't count on however which put a monkey wrench in their evil Darth Vader type plans
