Default Salix babylonica...

Is it safe to plant a Salix babylonica near a house? I had one growing up, but it was planted a good 70' from the house... I admit I don't know much about them, what's true and what's just old wife's tales, such as the root will tear into pipes, find the most miniscule cracks in concrete sewers and push their way into them... and go under houses and into the water lines. It sounds over exaggerated. I do know they love water. But where I want to put one has moist soil, full sun, but is close to the house and is near salt water.
I've read that they're hardy to salt spray and soil with salt content. How hardy? Once in a while, during hurricane season, the salt water will flood near where I want it planted.

I just lost my German Shepherd of fifteen years, I plant a tree in the memory of every dog I've lost and I always planned on a willow for her.

Please forgive my ignorance, I AM trying to learn.
