| Just outside and south of the Chandler tip entrance is this tree (Scribbly gum). Yesterday I decided to get out and have a look. Drilled it where the dia measurements were taken. Took a couple of pics for you too. DBH is 627mm (313mm radius) wall thickness 230mm Closer to ground where I drilled it 944mm (472mm radius) wall thickness 230mm. Opening is easily 50% of dia and no roots on side opposite lean. Ht, didn't measure but guess 20m Target is the road and it would easily make it if it fell. There you go, what do you diagnose? ![]() ![]()

| Firstly no target leave it be,but as you say it could impact the road in worst case senerio, take it out, I would say this tree has been subjected to mechanical damage to its root system when the fence went in by contractors,(cut of roots to one side)and compaction before and after the fire trail went in, also would have contributed the onset of senscene, and is in the dying stages of its life.?? The trees around look like their in reasonable health apart from the die back more than likely from compaction. |

| Agree with JayD, target is the key to risk assessment......has there been a fire through there in the past? Looks a bit like fire damage at the base, that combined with the lean and lack of healthy roots on the tension side...things don't look good for our friend tree. Sean |

| I'll leave it be, I'd like to see how long it lasts. There's no fibre buckling on the underside so got a while yet. I've tested a few and fallen ones similar get right down around 17% wall thickness before they go but they usually have a little root on the opposite side. Many gums are stag headed here due to drought.
