I agree 100%, I'm not going to preach at anyone and before anyone says what would you know..Well it is known that I don't drink, smoke or take drugs,But hey I use to..except the drugs.
Now when I did drink I probably drank my share and the next mans as well,I'd smoke like a bloody chimney while drinking, Have you heard them term bumper to bumper...well that was me..took me about 3 times to beat that addiction to this day when some one open a fresh packet tobaco I still fell like takeing a great big bite out of it, And you dont get to this stage until you reconise the little tricks your subconcious plays on you before you know it you just finnished a fag and attempt no1 just failed, Just build it up again and go for it you will beat it sooner or later.
With alcohol you just have to realise you really dont need it to have a good time, Even to unwind but here in Australia it's so ingrain to our culture makes it harder to beat, but you can and when you do you wont believe the money you will have in your wallet, No more sore heads or walking into the pub and every ones cowering away in horror from you dragging knukles around on floor last night.

Anyway I wish you all the best, Therrin with your decission to put it down.

And no I don't look down on any one who has a drink, I havent forgotten what it's like to have a ale or a smoke..plain fact is you dont need it!..And I'm not a re covering alcoholic, But I did drink heavily when I was younger. And it's been about ten years since I had a drink, longer for a smoke.

Stick with it buddy the end results worth it.

Thanks alot JayD =)

I actually quit smoking 3 years ago, then now when I quit drinking, I started smoking again for about 3 weeks, though by now it's kinda dwindled and died off. Kinda hard to explain to people who don't do it, I suppose...
I used to be able to go through a half gallon of rum or whiskey in about a 30 hour period, or a 24 or 30 pack of beer in a night.
I really can't imagine doing the work I'm doin now in that kinda condition!!! There must be somethin up there watchin out for my safety, hehe.

Being sober is nice... the only thing that sucks about it is when you get home at the end of a long hard day, and then you see a commercial of someone drinkin a cold brew. (gah!)

Here's an example of half of a month with nothing to do... (2 years ago)

Whats the costs involved?

Im thinking of home brewing myself but dont really want to bottle it.

I like the tap out the fridge idea better.
The empty kegs cost you around $80 each, they're yours keep for ever and hold 19 litres.

You need beer gas, I rent a 9kg bottle and it costs around $100 a year and $40 to refill, haven't refilled for over a year.

You need a regulator on the gas, about $100

And of course a fridge.

I just drop off the empties and pick up the full ones. One brew from that shop makes nearly 3 kegs ... 54 litres in a brew. My fridge can take 3 kegs but I usually only have 2 in there so I can fit soft drinks in there.

Way to go, I used to home brew at home and bottle .... bugger that. The brew shop cleans them and fills them, they gas them too and there's a special way to gas the beer, it's not just connect the gas to the keg.

Home brewers tell me they gas the hell out of the keg, maybe 50psi and roll it around some to get the gas into the beer.

The brew shop uses a special gassing method, put it this way, the beer is never flat, if anything it's too gassed and I have to release it some so less/no head.

Also, I own 6 kegs coz the brew shop need a spare full set, remember that, the beer takes time to make.

Thanks Ekka,

seems like the way to go.
I guess it must have cost you $600-$700 to set up, but you would save that in no time!
Average carton of beer $35, thats only about 20-30 cartons to pay back cost.
Break even in about six months!

How much does the brewery charge per brew?
How long does it take to make?
Is there a fermentation period?

Here's the video on it.

2 weeks from making to drinking.

Prices vary depending upon beer type, mines around $115 for 54 litres (3kegs) or 140 odd stubbies.

My beer is low alcohol, low carb and tastes like Becks Beir coz I love pilseners. I've brewed the clones of VB, Crown, Boags, Tiger, Ashanti, Superdry's, etc etc but Becks is the best for me ... nice and hoppy.

I'm sure if one made a concerted effort, he could break even in much less then 6 months!

I got it good now, I just drop off the empties and pick up the fulls ... do jack now! Except drink it!

They wash out your kegs, sterilize etc, booming business.

Hey Brewer's,
When I was a drinkin man, I got into the homebrew aswell, My favorite was Coopers Draught, I had two keg brewing most of the time, finnished up cryatal clear, nice head, and a good drop, about 4 to 6 weeks to this stage, I found that I got a better brew in the colder months when I could control the temp.I placed a deposit on the system your using now Ekka, not long after that I put it down. For no particular reason..just had enought. With your brewers they probably carbonise your keg for you.
Enjoy Men! Definately a thirst quenching hobbie.
