| I reckon....a little lions tailed too. When I pruned I always go for my clearances first then I aim at thinning out the crown, with practice you can thin it out reaaly good and you can hardly tell where you have rermoved the branches, keep an eye on your percentage of canopy removed as you do not want to stress the tree out to much. Keep the pictures coming.

Not to shift the blame but my co-worker still believes in the "balancing" technique. The tree is to be removed later on but i understand the 30% rule for canopy removal, and i put a bet down a branch will fail as they are all middle leaders that were protected from wind and are now fully exposed in a high wind area, but we will see. This is just how pruning is to be done under my boss n supervisors standards, you can see why i questioned leaving but i have been pushing proper practices on them both. They both had never heard of the AS4373 before so i gave them a booklet to read and there still oldschool style

Hard to not lions tail a little with a crown lift that high. Also removing the outer branches/leaders will definitely open up the barer middle leaders giving that lions tailed look. I think it will be OK and in a year or two look pretty normal again. Looks like a hillii rather than benjamina, therefore the more rigid erect look unlike the benjamina which tends to droop more allowing a softer cascading appearance.

Could they be topped once the epicormic buds have sprouted? I still think it is better to prune like it hasnt been pruned. Sometimes the size makes that hard to acheive. |
