Default A rather old pear tree

While visiting a museum yesterday I came across this elderly fellow growing in a victorian street-the street had been kept that way as part of the exhibit so its fair to guess that this tree has been there a good while. And yet it still bears fruit.

Great picture, reveals more than one might first expect, two bricked up doorways either side of the arch perhaps, doubtless this pear is having an impact of some sort on the building, but who cares beautiful tree

Visited your blog Sylvatica, really liked the presentation and the pics, shame you didn't keep it updated, perhaps too many other time demands eh?
Would be very interesting to find out about the history of some of the older established trees of your town, Arbor day was a significant community event in many UK towns, giving civic leaders the opportunity to showcase their pride and commitment to the townfolk.

Thanks Sean, but that site is still being updated. Whenever i come across an old tree in my area i put it up there. Tried to put this pear tree up but the site wouldn't let me log in tonight, try again tomorrow. Its certainly not idle, just awaiting more big trees. I would like to find out more about each tree, history wise but altho i have asked around I've had no replies and I don't know who else to ask, plus I am rather busy with my 2 young kids etc. but whenevr i find a gap and i'm near tree i photograph it. Would also like to write a book on the trees in my town but have no idea where to start!
