Is this tree going to damage my pool as it grows? It's been there about 20 years I believe and you can see the deck has lifted a small amount near where the tree is. Could there be more damage in the future from its roots? I don't want to remove it unless I have to. Tim ![]() Last edited by Eric Frei; 7th February 2011 at 07:54 AM. My opinion is YES too close Remove the pebbles and wash some soil away - try to see what roots are present Do a google for 'safely excavating tree roots' and see what you can find May be better to engage an arborist Last edited by Darrell Mcleod; 7th February 2011 at 07:49 AM. Reason: typo |

Looks like a Sheoak. Bit on the close side though. Are there any more cracks along the wall of the pool?

You say the tree has been there 20 years but how long has the pool and wall been there?

not sure how long as none of our neighbours have been around since the place was built in 89 but as far as I'm aware from the model of the pump & filter, the pool was probably put in when the house was built, and there are no more cracks.

Not sure if it is a Sheoak – maybe – better up close pictures would help You need to exactly identify the tree to know how much bigger it will grow Do you have tree protection laws affecting this tree where you live? |

That does seem quite close to the pool.

Cut it down because down the road it will cause problems.I can't tell you if it'll be 10,20,or 30 years down the road but sooner or later, its gonna happen.

| +1. The tree will keep growing and if it breaks through the wall it has quite the water source, although I'm not sure how chlorine would affect it. Best bet is to cut it down now before it damages the pool. If you want shade over the pool go for one of those sun sail things, plant a tree somewhere else in the yard.

thanks for all the replies guys. The tree's gotta go - I found this old pic from 7 years ago when I moved in and you can see the deck had not lifted like it is now. I also got in touch with a local guy who owns a pool business - told me he's often seen damage done to pools and decks by pines being planted too close. ![]() Tim |
