Default Paper Wasps "Nasty Little Blighters"

Well I had to go and get one of my climbers from a job site after he didn't spot a huge paperwasp (500mm x 300mm) nest within the tip of a Kauri Pines limb. They cut the limb on the lowering rope and when the branch hit the ground the colony went straight up the trunk and gave my climber a real touch up.

He had his tie in point in a adjacent tree and had do a "rapid swing and descent". I took him to the Doc for a Antihistimine shot to relive the swelling (he was hit over 100 times) hes now resting at home.

I have to be real careful now because i have been stung that many times over the years i now swell extremly badly

Anyone got any "good and safe" control/destruction methods for these little vermin.

I haven't tried the new stuff; but the old Wasp Spray i used years ago was more effective if you threw the can at the nest and squashed the blighters whilst you ran the opersite way.

Well, my uncle used to burn the nests attached to my grandmother's house, which works great, but isn't really practical for tree surgeons. I don't think smoke works as well on wasps as it does on bees either.

Lol Mike, you recommending I recycling my empty bug spray cans by throwing them at the nest?

That wasp killer stuff that Ekka was talkin bout is the go! pretty much you'll use a whole can on one nest, it shoots a stream for approx 3-4m. knocks em dead straight away.

this is the stuff to use NO doubt!

i think Ekka may have posted a photo of it here or on another site once before.
