I disagree!!! It's only half day, the other half is night!!!!

On a lighter note. How do you cut yourself when using a top handle like a 200 one handed? Other than crossing hands and cutting UNDER your left arm (assuming a right handed grip on the saw) I can't see how a kickback could cut you?

Also, whilst we are chatting about cross over, I just swap hands and move my body to the right. I then am holding the branch or frond right handed and the saw left handed with the upward bar path free of anything of value, especially me!!

I use step cuts with a ms220 or cut and hold with a sharp handsaw. Its no slower than one handed chainsawing, but much safer. I know someone who cut there own throwt 5mm from the jugular one handed sawing. Get you tecnique right as the consequences are not worth it.

Right but what I meant was that if you are on a pruning job that requires cutting pieces that could cause damage to something below you are slowed down by ethier cutting everything with a handsaw and holding the piece with the other hand or roping off everything while using the chainsaw with 2 hands.

I use one hand at times, especially where it saves significant time. I believe that the top handled saws we use were designed for it, but only by experienced competent arborists.

USE 2 HANDS WHENEVER POSSIBLE!

Good on you,It's allways your decision how you operate you equipment.Good work methods are taught so people get better at how they handle their equipment.Bad Habits Creep In Ever So Slowly

With your job over fragile understory,Glasshouse,My advice is quote to do the job,Not to get it.Then you can use correct methods to take down the sections...Because you have been paid to work slow and carefull.

I must be an exception to the rule, I started doing tree work in shorts with no eye, hearing, head, or chainsaw protection and obviously no good direction or mentor. The more I work the more I strive to take precautions, my boots, safety glasses, helment, earplugs, and chaps are just part of everyday life now. My current foreman(guy who taught me about real tree work) made my life real difficult untill I started working safe. I am even trying to one hand less and less as time goes on, but honestly I think that it will always be nessecary at times.

I'd kinda like to know where this is going beforehand, but I'll play along. If you're talking about ever in my life I believe it was a Stihl 019 or simular rear handle small saw when I was about 10 years old, but if you're talking about since I started doing tree work it would be the 200T as my first saw.

Well at the age of 10, you started cutting using two hands on that rear handled saw, now you occasionally cut with one -

So indeed there is no exception to the rule here.

Yeah I know I'm being very finecky' , but I had to point that out.

Bottom line, be safe whilst one handing. I know I do and I am.
