Hi to everyone at tree world and Eric Frei nice editing for my welcome lol. My quick back story i left school garde 10 started a buisiness growing flowers, then worked as a labourer, then a mechanic then the Army which i loved but left for a girl silly me lol, then worked on a farm and did my cert 3 in horticulture and have been driving earthmoving equipment for the last 3 years and every where in between since i was 4. Now i have decided to start McCords Tree Services with my cousin. This is our set up i have just bought a bandit 1290H chipper from Perth geting here in 2 or 3 weeks and he bought a 3 ton excavtor which we plan to feed the chipper with, and i will be the tree climber and have been practicing climbing for 2 months learning every day. I am very passionate about all things that go hand in hand with the tree industry and i want to be in it for the long haul so i want to do it right. I have done my home work on every thing for the last 3 months but your input would be greatly appreciated if u could give me any tips on ie insurance companys, laws and regulations, chainsaws needed, problems with the banit 1290H, typical jobs scenarios, other equipment needed and anything else i need to now thank you very much for reading this and helping me out.

With insurance we have a sponsor here, I use them. Just switched my Kanga insurance to them too. Tree Lopper Insurance Cover with Statutory Liability Extension Be careful not to cut down protected trees. On development sites eb careful not to damage remaining protected trees, do not drive over their TPZ zones etc. Chainsaws:- Very opinionated with brands but I use all Stihl, bars interchange so do chains etc and dealers are everywhere for parts. There's many things covered in this forum, use the search button and look around. Look at videos of treework for instance.

Great that you want to start your own business. Just a few things to keep in mind and suggestions. Not sure the exact work you are going to do but you mention climbing and if that is the case, I strongly suggest you take some training from a school if you have them in your area. The hazards are so numerous. Where I am from, a utility arbourist is a 4 year apprenticeship. The type of trees you climb and cut have different hazards based on their structure, time of year, and health which all add to serious hazards that have to be assessed before you even leave the ground. If you are planning on just trimming shrubs and cutting brush then chipping, there are alot of hazards here as well although the falling from height hazard is illiminated. I have attached an accident that involves a chipping operation that occured in British Columbia Canada just to show you the dangers of the forestry job. Not trying to discourage you, just want you to make you aware how dangerous this type of work will be. Get the training, proper tool, and if you can hire a arbourist with plenty of experience. That will help you out 10fold. WorkSafeBC Slide Show |
