Default Need advice on courses

Alright guys I'm not new to tree lopping. I've been doing it with my old man for several years. But we have had a falling out so I can't rely on him for knowledge on insurance companies and what tickets I need to get.

Now I'm only 17 and just about to finish grade 12 so I'm trying to get all my tickets and information together by the time I'm 18 so I can apply for a loan and get insured. The area I'll be working has a population of around 7000, so the streets aren't overly crowded. I eventually want to have, a cherry picker, wood chipper, trucks, and a backhoe. So what tickets do I need or are at least going to help me get insured. Would be much appreciated if you could help out.

In an area with a population of around 7,000 you can not afford to have a falling out with someone. This industry is small. Learn to be one of the few who goes about the job without back-stabbing, name calling, yelling etc.

I agree with Kaazih. 7000 people is too small. Mend the fences, and get respect back between you, or expect to move elsewhere. The industry is too small to have bad feelings not follow you. You will save more time, and gain more respect, and learn more just getting back together with your Dad. It will be well worth it.

Yeah but he said he doesn't want anything to do with me so I can't help it.

You can if you insist - but you have to mean it, and convince him you do.

No.1, drop the word "lopping".

I don't know the ins and outs of your family so I'm not going to comment, needless to say if its a trivial spat then patch it up, life's to short for him and you.
My advice on course's is get the tickets that you can use and thats in demand in your area. No backhoe then forget the ticket until you get one etc. If there is only a populous of 7,000 then you need to be better (offering a superior product) than the next bloke (even if that is the old man). Finally, running people (competitors) down drags you along, proof of your reputation is in your word and work not someone else's gob.
Concentrate on the core of your business, don't be in to much of a hurry to jump into debt all for the sake of diversification.

Good luck as you will need a little, but mostly it'll be hard work.

Cheers

Why not use the word lopping?

Just my opinion, as the old un-descriptive principle of "lopping" is somewhat vague and often aligned with butchering a tree, maybe a symptom of hacks that infiltrate the industry now and then i don't know. Before all the "pro loppers" jump down my neck I am only commenting on the term not any individuals talent or competency and even then it is just my opinion.

Thanks

Tony

Like tony says Lopping is synonymous with Hacks and gives the wrong impression of the industry, if you want to be a lopper thats fine but you will find that you will get a better response from people if you come accross more professional and thats from the public and other pro's.
