Default Moving to Oz

I'm off to Sydney in two weeks, hoping to get work as an arborist. I've been working in London for 2 1/2 years and just need some basic know-how from people who know the Sydney Arb scene. Questions include: where do I get travel insurance that covers me for monkey-ing? (should I bother as I never did in London...?) should I get my climbing kit sent over or will most employers provide? where are the majority of jobs advertised? In london my experience has mostly been in reductions, will I get to reduce trees in Oz or do you mainly fell? So many more questions, does anyone know where to start?

dont reckon you'll be doing many reductions. not really an aussie thing. weve got a jock that works with us and that was his specialty back home. in my company we predominantly do pruning(for boundary clearances, powerlines and deadwood) and removing in confined spaces. ie backyards and tight areas which requires a knowledge of complex rigging. most of urban syd work is like this, but we also fell and clear trees on a regular basis.

my advice would be to find a decent size company and work as an employee where most employers will provide you with training and kit. also depends if your on a visa or whatever but im sure talking to a few companies you'll find all the answers and if they want you they'll make it happen. helpful tip; rent a place close to a train station. sydneys a bitch to get around if your not familar but trains make it easy.
