How do you seal a green log in preparation for milling

If you are going to mill it right away, don't bother -- just keep the log away from the sun and wind and you should be ok -- especially if the log is over 16" diameter and at least over 6 ft long.

Thanks for our reply mate, It probably will be milled once the moisture content is reduced. I will probably sit it under cover and maybe paint the ends with bondcrete mixed with paint. Have you any other suggestions |

There is no real need to be fancy with the paint for the ends, any paint will do -- allow for 2-3 inches of checking at the ends. And while you want the moisture content to go down, the rule of thumb is one year is required for every one inch of thickness -- so a 16" log, takes 16 years to dry. It is much better to mill the log sooner, and then get started on drying the lumber -- better return for your time.
