Do Linden tree roots seek out pipes agressively like willows and poplars? Are they any worse than Maples? I just bought a Linden and now have to choose where to plant it. Should I plant it far, far away from my house with the willows or can I put it closer with the maples? How close to my house should I go? How close to my driveway?

Lindens grow best in full sun, but tolerate shade well. They prefer a well-drained soil that is neutral and they grow in almost any type of soil as long as it's kept slightly moist. It can grow in clay soil better than most trees. Lindens should be planted in the spring. Lindens have coarse roots that grow deeply, but laterally, so they accept transplanting easily. Linden are used in ornamental planting with good effect. Take the time to locate the root flare at the crown of the root system before planting Lindens, they are sensitive to being planted too deep, a condition that encourages girdling roots to develop, slowly strangling the tree. ---------------- Lonet Guaranteed ROI |

Lindens should be planted in the spring. Choose bare root trees that are from 5 1/2 to 10 feet tall. These trees are generally available at nurseries, and specimens as tall as 5 feet may be acquired. Lindens have coarse roots that grow deeply, but laterally, so they accept transplanting easily. --------------------- Reena Last edited by Eric Frei; 12th September 2008 at 09:38 PM. I agree with lonetcrystal,i would also add compost and mulch after planting, just ti help hold moisture, provide nutrients, and prevent soil compactation.
