Default Leaning pines of Botany Bay

I read in the local paper that thee was a big controversy about some leaning pines in Cook Park; whether they should be removed or not. Well I went down to have a look.
I must admit I was expecting something more spectacular than this. Unless I missed them, these were the only leaning pines there. I don't know whether they are dangerous or not.

Now see what will happen is the council will grease some "consultant" who'll air blast the sand away. Then 4 blokes will stand around scratching their heads as well as their azzes thinking yeah but what if ...

... then some-one might suggest that getting a picus reading from a nearby South Australian consultant would be good so they do that but still there's nothing exactly definative so they fly Klaus Mattheck out from Germany to have a look (and escape winter) who then suggests a cabling to some concrete blocks submerged in addition to reduction pruning ...

... BUT a snitch in the council then lets Erk Brudi know of the scam who quickly gains media attention as he can definately tell everyone how sound and stable the tree is with his censors and pulling equipment as well as assist in condemning Mattheck's data as fraudulent.

Council dont want to look like a bunch of DH's so they get Brudi in who hooks up his gear and pulls here and there and suggests the same is done with saturated soils. So now a water tanker comes along and half floods the area, the pull test is complete and comparisons made.

A board meeting is called to analyse all the various data and options.

After the debate the options remained the same as everyone elses who spent 0.02 on the matter.

1/ Leave it alone
2/ Prune it
3/ Remove it

Maybe a 3 sided coin needs to be invented, would save a lot of expense, the decision making process cost a meager $12,000 and no-ones done anything yet.

Hence the story of the New Farm Jacarandas, where massive pruning was done on the side of the lean but everyone got greased along the way which makes it so much more intelligent a decision and ended up with further failures and lots of removals.

Hi Phil,
I have seen this "controversy" in our local paper.
But the pictures they have printed are of the massive pines on the foreshore???? Seeing your pictures now takes on a diiferent view than what the public is getting.
They included pics of the three massive pines near the resturant on the eastern side (bay side) of The Grand Parade (nr Bay St)?
Not like the papers to print something incorrect to stir up controversy and public scaremongering!!!!!! I'm shocked!!!!

Well, I might have been in the wrong spot. Bay St is at Brighton-le-Sands, isn't it? I was at Dolls Point.

Phil, you may not have been. I think your pics look a whole lot more "dangerous" than the ones that were printed in the story.
Next time I pass I'll try and grab some pics of both.
It may have been a bit of meda hype to print the massive pines near the shops as "dangerous"
