Hi I have a quick question I hope this is the correct area for it... I have 3 triple king palms, that have multiple seeds pods dropping onto my new deck, plus the bird pooh, I want to cut the pods down as they appear, but the palms are approx 25foot tall! Is there a pole tool that a none proffesional like myself can buy & use when the seeds start???? I have tried a hand saw gaff taped to a swimming pool pole with ladder but is getting close to being dangerous to reach. |

Silky Hayate 7.7m Pole Saw goes for around $600 But are you talking cocos palms or alex palms? I'd hate to be trying to pole saw off cocos spathes or berries. Why not go to a aluminium supplier and buy yourself some rectangular sections (some are already 6m long), bolt on a $10 hand saw and bob's your uncle.

Course they come in triples. Doesn't matter whether bangalow or alex, same seeds pretty much, easy enough to saw of with a light pole saw, get them down not long after they emerge.

For anyone who isn't sure about using polesaws: My two little rules for polesaw use at home. Both petrol and telescopic. 1. Look for electrical wires before sticking anything long and metal up in the air. Think of the range of possibilities if the pole were to escape your control after a cut. Insulated powerwires won't protect you if the pointy bits get there first so have a big buffer distance. I can't stress this enough. (probably in your backyard and you've got underground power) 2. 70 degrees. avoid using the polesaw at angles steeper than 70 degrees (it can hurt the operator or it can lead to bending of the pole.) If you have to stretch on tippy toes to make the cut, bad news may follow. |
