When my trees are still a bit small, I buy netting from bunnings and throw over them, they're around $5 each. With the bigger trees, we load the shotgun and scare the living hell out of them. They sometimes come back the next day usually, so you do it again, after a few days they're not so keen to come back. In the city I think the snake thing might work!! I wouldn't be doing the gun thing in the suburbs or city lol! Damn cockies cause that much damage! |

| Have you got any pictures of the tree? generally pictures are worth a thousand words, if we can see the damage and the "thin out "you have had done we may be able to help.

I can just see Sueann out in the yard, blasting the hell out of her poor trees with a shotgun, in an effort to actually just keep birds out of them.... broken and dangling branches hanging all over the place. A real looker. |

Oh like I shoot the trees ya nut! I don't know if you have big parrots over there but they hate the sound and it works! ask any farmer. And I have been around guns my whole life but I don't kill things and hardly ever touch them. I went spotlighting with my cousin's off the back of the ute when I was about 15 and shot a fox, I cried for hours and was so sorry I got caught up in all the hype. They said they would never take me again because I wanted to go home after that, I said thats fine by me cos I don't want to go. But you couldn't go blasting a shottie in town. |

Awwww... poor SA ![]() In neighborhoods you don't need the noise of a shotgun. You need a *wimpy* pellet gun... One that is just strong enough to hit the bird with the pellet, but not strong enough to actually hurt the thing (if you're trying not to kill it anyway) It's like spanking your kids, they figure it out after a while and then stop doing it. I still thought the mental picture of you blowing the crap outta some tree to scare birds away was |

Why you have to made the bird out of the tree? What I want to say is, bird is good for human beings, we should protect them and try to give them a home!

Not these birds Thaoub, they are big white parrots with really big, strong beaks that can almost chew through steel! They can destroy a grove of small trees in one arvo and even do a lot of damage in bigger trees and bushes. They come in big flocks of up to 50 odd birds and cause great havoc. The noise they make when squawking can deafen you. They're very inquisitive as well, and like to check things out! They wreck people's wooden verandah's, fences and anything wood, they are protected and I wouldn't kill them anyway, but they also scare away the pretty birds like the mountain lorries, rosella's and lovely finches, that aren't evil and bent on major destruction. They are the funniest bird to watch though, as they don't hop like most birds they actually walk..one foot after another and people liken them to drunken sailors, they do funny things like hang upside down and generally looking crazy as. We get black cockatoos here as well, and they are nothing like their cousins as far as being destructive goes, they're gorgeous and fly in small flocks or around.. 6-10 around here anyway. | |
