| thought that since im on a nice steep learning curve i would start a thread for my progressions and try and keep it all in one place rather than littering the forum with every little question i have and every bit of news. I'll post my gear stuff and what not in here soon. hope this is OK by the management? anyway, new bit of news being that yesterday i managed to use some of those throwbag tricks and isolate some limbs and crotches wonderfully. and i footlocked for the first time, and really very successfully. I really liked it as an access method if im honest! did it Drt 2:1 so it was a bit slow but pretty easy going. Will try 1:1 next time i go out. oh and Ive booked my CS38 tree climbing and aerial rescue course and assessment. course 27-30 May and assessment 2nd June |

| yeah, i thought if i was trying something new (footlocking) i'd stick with what i knew for now. only change one thing at once if you like. it was performing a lot better too. a lot more progressive. think it's probably now ive got the glaze/varnish off the new split tails and the rope. was pretty happy with it once more. will definitely try a distel next time im out. got a feeling on my CS38 theyre gonna make me climb with prusik loops only, so id better familiarise myself with that too. |

| I still use prussiks ![]() I'm like an old dog who isn't fond of change. They work <shrugs> I know there's all these new reasons why they suck, but they still work. Don't use them often for ascending cuz I use hardware for that, but I did make some lanyards the other day and I use em on those for positioning. Have you done SRT sawsong?

| Although sling shots may not agree to the purist, hell, throw lines have just been around for a minute or two also. For high shots as far as accuracy and not wasting a boat load of time (esp. if somebody is watching you and you keep missing crotch) the slingshot rarely misses and you can pop one easily 100 ' (nice for setting lowering crotches too obviously, or yanking over a straight fall) |

lanyards, now theres a thought. Ive currently only got one. a Petzl Grillon 3m setup, but for my course it says I should have 2. im going to assume for ART. Now, what does anyone recommend for that? another one? a 3m rope one with a prusik to adjust? a 5m one? a wirecore and a prusik to adjust? and the syllabus says '2 pole strops' i think. I assume work positioning lanyards are the same thing? Quote:
