Just wondering on opinions regarding becoming a member of the ISA. Pro's and Con's?

Thanks

Can't really think of a negative to ISA membership....I suppose you could argue the fee is too high, I don't think it is.

The pros: Annual subscriptions to Arb journal and Arborist news, discounts on ISA conferences and training, discounts on books vids etc, a means by which you can present your professionalism to your clients.

OK I have thought of a negative; membership can create the impression in some people that they have achieved something, when they have actually only opened up the opportunity to achieve something more..whether they actually take up that opportunity is really up to them.

well said....

too many "isa arborists" think that the learning stops once you get certified...they never stay current with the changing research and info available....

Negative would be joining near the end of the year without being informed that membership is only for a calender year

Isn't there a requirement to gain continued education units (CEU's)?

That requirement for ongoing education and amassing CEU's is in relation to the Certified Arborist qualification, not ISA membership.

And, the CEU's are easy to get especially for college and municipal folks.

But still, I can't think of downsides to membership. It opens up opportunities for involvement, connection and learning.
