But why cannot they have these expo's in the dead of the slow season? Arbor expo, back in beginning of eighties, the first of all the big expo's was in the winter. |

Both their publications take a long time to land on the doorstep in Australia too.

Thanks TM, I am going to contact them before I renew...if I need some support I'll draft you! I reckon if I'm paying $318 that SOME of that can be applied to sticking a $2 stamp on my magazine! Trev, if it takes a month to get 600 miles offshore of the US, with over 10 flights a day coming from the eastern seaboard, what chance do you think you have buddy!!!

There's different UPS charges, seems obvious they take the cheapest one. I can get a chainsaw from USA in a week, in fact 3 working days was the record. On the other hand I had one take 3 months when it went std UPS. So the solution would be for them to upgrade the mailing of non USA mail to a better service. Another option is for the mags to be online and members be able to view them with a special log in code. They could be put into a file type that cannot be downloaded or printed.

| TCI Magazine | Tree Care Industry Association | Widely read magazine in the Tree Care Industry Not a fix for Bermie cuz internet is slow, but it is nice to have it online. Arborist News is not online, but ISA has a lot of free stuff at their website. |

Sometimes thats coolin' out on the couch or out in the garden, I am NOT lugging the laptop around to do that! Call me a tactile, global learner...for the teachers out there, you know what I mean! I have emailed ISA and TCIA this weekend, to explain the problem, and I await their reply!

| Good move; let us know what they say. I work enough with both that i'd like to think (fantasize?) they would listen...maybe something could be snuck into the August Dendro, like..."Codit ran into the office with a bundle, yelling 'Hey, here's the August Arborist News, and it's not even October yet! They musta fed that turtle some caffeine!'"

Here's the update, and I must say I am pleased! TCIA, Brenda French of the membership services co-ordinator, emailed me back within two days to say they were going to work on the problem, yesterday they came back to say they were going to experiment by sending two magazines by different routes and for me to let them know which one gets here first. Really a personal touch I must say... ![]() ISA , Danielle Deck, emailed yesterday to say they had sent out the missing magazines to me again yesterday and to let them know how long it takes to arrive...I did reply to tell them their address label was minuscule and very difficult to find against the background of the magazine. Both TCIA and ISA April magazines arrived here on 6th May... So, both organizations have stepped up to the plate. Follow up on your problems, allow them to help, don't just moan on a forum site!

Way to go Fiona, ISA and TCIA! Active members are much more likely to get their dues' worth. |

this was a pm "I was on the ISA site today and decided to take the board-certified master arborist trial exam and I passed. My question to you tonight is, are these trial test a good guide? It just seemed so easy." 7 questions do not show the breadth of topics covered; look at the list of references and get confident about your grasp before taking it. I took it 4 years ago and do not know how much it's changed since. It's a good cert to have if you sell your opinions. |

Sure membership of organisations has its downfalls - I belong to the NZAA and the ISA - but it's a useful link for info and different ideas and opinions. One key thing to note: Professional membership is tax deductible (at least in NZ and I'm pretty sure in Oz and the USA too!). So if you'd rather give your money to the IRD / IRS, go for your life. Personally, I'd rather be affiliated to an international society. Another thing - the organisation is composed of us. So we're what makes it good, bad, or indifferent. Same holds for any association / church / club / whatever. |
