I was looking around for any new techniques that might help me with my spur climbing when I came across this expert-in-nothing. I left a response to his post regarding safety, but don't know if it will be published. I'll try contacting the site admins. How to spur climb a tree Ye I usually stick to reputable sites, but hell the link was really high up on google. I wonder how many people this guy has killed? The truth be told I was looking for any tips that might help me not get so exhausted while spur climbing. I've got some bloody 20m Eucs to do that are covered in Ivy with Ivy branches coming out about 1m from the trunk all the way up. No substantial branches to put a climbing line on so it's 4 steps up, prune for a bit, 4 steps up, prune for a bit. By the time I've been up for 45 mins I'm covered in sweat. Any tips from anyone? I posted, and sent him a message as well. Within two hours, he replied, thanked me, and took down his post. Wow.... |

Elevated work platform.Wait a minute are you pruning with spurs on?and no significant limbs to put a line on,in that case put the line around the trunk and the limbs become riders, just keeping the line from sliding down the trunk.

I'll stick with the spurs, but I think I'm not locking my knees enough as I'm working. | |

Nothing will stop you from sweating, just get used to being a huge glue stick coz the saw dust will stick to every bit of sweat on you. If there are any thicker branches above you when you are getting tired try and get your lifeline up around it and around the truck and just sit down for a few minutes to give your feet a rest. I've done that a few times, works a treat for keeping feeling in your feet.
