Default Homeowner Pruning Advice

Would anyone recommend pruning a tree like the "expert" in this DIY video?

well apart from missing alot of the fundamentals of pruning, he missed the collar by 4 or five inches didn't give any clues to the amount you could take off a tree, didn't explain that the tree he was pruning wont grow from brown wood, jeez where do i stop, he had an oportunity to really get people informed on the true nature of pruning techniques instead he tossed his hair and hacked it creating more homeowner hacks so no i wouldn't recommend him any to one.

This guy has an entire catalog of DIY "advice". Most of it is terrible. I was surprised even used the word collar when speaking about the tree.

This is an advertising tool called "misdirection". It is used to sell a product that is apparently not for sale but rather that its presence is incidental to the main topic. The website is called GMC trade secrets, indicating that out of the goodness of their hearts the good folks at General Motors are letting you, the humble home owner, learn some of the secrets that the evil overcharging tradesmen will not tell you. I would suggest that this guy knows as much about trees as I know about ice sculpture.

I guarantee that, with the effect of "chinese whispers" there will be a plethora of conifers with 4 inch stubs all over the place and the indignant home owners telling their detractors that they are "pruning to the collar", which as we know is always 4 inches from the trunk.

More useless garbage on the net.

I agree that this is more about advertising GMC products than actual useful facts. But couldn't GMC or the people behind this train wreck actually check with a pro for the proper information? If they want a long haired talking head that's fine, but add some credibility by having the guy writing the script be an actual professional.

These people live in the land of tv, it's a mythical place where you can say what you like and live in a dream state away from the real world and believe what all the other tvpeople say to you while you pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

I didn't really have a specific question. I stumbled upon that video while checking out some other bad advice for an electrical forum and found the misinformation silly.

Well how bad was that!

WTF would you have a crappy pine like that so close to the house in the first place? Oh, so you can do the next show on gutter cleaning.

No idea. Prune for fruit and flower production ... on a crappy pine
