Default Home-owner removals

My neighbours cutting down a decent sized Euc torelliana.

Using a ladder and electric chainsaw. His wife saw me yesterday asking how much to just deck it and cut up the big trunk log to lift-able pieces. I said $300 ...

She's a nurse and sees a lot of chainsaw and ladder accidents but hubby wont listen.

He did a few limbs yesterday but today he's having a full go today. Yeah so at 8.00am this morning we hear a huge crash and he was up the tree with his son pulling on a rope trying to pull the limb sideways to miss the shed but CRASH!

Then they've been panel beating that for the last 10 minutes. It's gonna be an interesting day but I cant make it too obvious that I'm watching.

It's straight out of our window, cant miss it but the windows tinted so I gotta go outside for good shots. I got the video ready.

Here's some pics.

By the way, $300 is cheap, no-one else doing it for that especially that size and the barrel is about 3' DBH

His wife who works at Wesley hospital was telling me how boys with their toys just wont listen.

At here work two surgeons, not one but two, decided to cut their own trees. These are medical professionals right.

One cut two fingers off his hand, the other cut his thigh really bad. Now she has to watch this guy going up a ladder with an electric chainsaw. She said yesterday that he cut a limb and it nearly knocked him off the ladder but he keeps going back for more.

That was a cheap quote; nothing less than ?800 (don't know what the conversion rate would be). You'll have to keep us posted on the outcome of the events to come. DIY tree care

So the earlier pics are also the conclusion for todays innings at Brisbane's whacker grounds.

I can understand the need to be carefull with your money,..but at what cost? $300 for this tree is cheeeeap. If they proceed form there first warning (droping a limb on their shed) god help them.

I have done some tree cutting in front of my house but using the right gear
( I hope, I was!!) The electric saw was my first toy. After a couple of close calls in the tree while lowering branches, I took a breather and considered how stupid and lucky I was not to have been hurt badly. But, we never learn until it is probably too darn late, so that is why you regularly read about homeowner's accidents while messing around cutting trees. We should leave it to the professionals.... and pay up. Specially the Doctor guy that cut his fingers that is not only painful but costly, if he is not able to go back to his medical practice as a Doctor. What a cheap skate!

Did a quote yesterday for a lady who has just bought a house where there is a coconut palm that we were servicing for the previous owner. They have done up some plans for an extention for the house and the palm is in the way.Now it is quite a nice healthy palm about 14m high in a congested area you know the thing neighbours garage and fence only 3-4 meters away 3 meters away from the patio from the house about 8 meters from the front fence.Tree bows towards neighbours garage and then back towards the owners house.Gave her a quote for us to use our 30m ewp and cut and lower in sections so there is no error.Wife then tells us that hubby is looking at dropping tree on the weekend with a ladder and chainsaw .strongly advised her to talk hubby around but i havnt heard anything back yet.I think ill have to go around on saturday to see how it pans out with camera in hand for marketing purposes. My belief is that there will be a carnage factor of 10.

Yeah, get around there and have a look. Those coconut palms never grow straight but they're nice and soft to walk up.

Customers can take risks we cannot, if they smash something it's "oh well, still will cost less than using some-one else". Unless of course they smash something real bad.

What kind of tree was that?
When ever my neighbors hire some other guy to do their trees, it just really urkes my nerves. especially after I went there and they said they were going to wait. I had a elder couple with a dead avocado tree in their yard and I offered to cut it down for a great price so I could get the wood. I usually sell to this one guy and he buys eveything all the way to the brush. The next week they had my compotition out there. I know that if he would have done it him self, he would have either took a month or got hurt.
How long did it take your neighbours next door to take down their tree?

It's a gum tree, still the same, they haven't kept going.

But the week end is here so they may attack it again.

Well, turn of events.

Tree stays the way it is.

Stubs stay as home-owner wants bushy tree so resprouting is desired

Apparently the back neighbour got a bit upset about it going and they had a chat so home-owner says it can stay now.

I feel like cleaning up those stubs though.

I would have bid $800USD for that take-down, and that would've been cheap here. The guy was nuts to not go for your $300.

I would have got a great helcam video though. lol

Honestly, we just dont do that many gums anymore ... many are gone these days or they're that big and bad the owner doesn't part with the $'s to do it and they stay.

Wait till storms hit, that'll get people going again.

Ignore the logs behind the tree but focus on the makeshift ladder and the tear cuts.

Friggin ripper eh?

Hey Ekka, At least the owner tied the "ladder" with Red Safety color rope! How the heck did he managed to reach up to the cut level? I imagine he was using a saw on a extension pole? Were the branches dropped on top of his house at least? He was so stingy to even buy a decent ladder at the local Home improvement store. Shame on him/her!

After all this time and some of the things i've seen foolishly done, Its still amazes me how they go about risking there life for the sake of a couple of dollars, one slip and which limb would he have cut??his arm...leg..or the jackpot, decapitated his/her self. "A" for ingenuity "A+" stupity all for a couple of bucks..go figger???.
Lets hope he puts this tree out of it's misery!

Ekka we should have a seperate thread for all these foolish makeshift treework post.

Funny part is you could have stood on the near flat pergola roof and cut it!

The lady said they had a bottle of wine and got this crazy idea to cut the tree down ... with handsaw.

They pulled the limbs which were half cut thru.

We were right there, blocking down the cuban and they didn't want what's left done! Go figure

This is a good idea i reckon, some homeowners that come across it may think twice about taking on the job themselves if they see the trouble others have gotten into.

I tell some potential customers to look up tree cutting on youtube and watch the DIYers Do It Wrong! Scary stuff!

Funny I was just thinking this morning as I passed a home owner was cutting down a tree
Finally a home owner with sense, he had rented a aerial lift to get him up there
Not a hard job just a Blue Spruce about 40' tall but for a home owner it would have been a challenge
Made me happy to see common sense still lives
He probably got some silly quotes
I would have down the tree for the rental price roughly $450.00 with delivery
Drove by this afternoon and the Dudes were havin beer and a BBQ and the tree was all done and everyone looked happy
Made me smile
Maybe there is hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the unit they used

Those are great coz you can drive them around whilst elevated, no outriggers! But you need relatively flat ground.

I wonder how they transported it to the site?

The rental companies usually charge $150.00 to deliver and pick up
The unit is around $300.00 per day
So I figured it cost him about 400 to 450 for the rental
And yes they are sweet
I have used 80 ft units and about a month ago I saw a Genie 125 go by on a flat bed rig
All I could do was drool as it rolled by

My wife thinks we are silly
Boy's and their toys and all
Damn girl that was a 125 footer
The look told me she just did not get it

Well I did as I know you are as you read this

Ha!

This arvo a lady at my door. She's the back neighbour and has come over to talk about this bloody gum tree and get a quote to remove it and possibly even pay for it.

They're getting a pool and they hate the thing anyway..

Apparently, he never ever even spoke to them, was all BS!

So, this is gonna now get interesting, you see, she's that pissed off he didn't cut the tree down that she'll arrange it. If he doesn't allow it she said cut it flush to the fence line and since it's on the fence line it will be cut in half.

Once again, like a broken record, fence line trees create bad neighbours more than good IMHO.

For those who dont know, those are really crappy gum trees. And they stink!

Keep that video camera handy.

We had two blokes "chesting up" to each other over a tree on a fenceline once.

We turned up to do a "half prune" on the neighbours side and it was on.

If we had not stepped in it would have turned into a "punch up".

I wish a had a camera there, i could have sold the footage.
(would have been worth more than the job)
