I must say, I'm pretty impressed by those guys. Sort of.
Show made the wifey cry tonight. Apparently there's a few similarities between loggers and arborists?

Kinda interesting, but way over dramatized. On the episode I saw they made it sound like jumping from one tree to another and resetting your tie in was one of the most dangerous things in the world, when in reality its not that big of a deal.

True that!

Then the big guy ("best climber in the world") gets drunk....next day he is whining about heat stroke in (wow!) around 100 degree weather....and quits!

What a puss

The wife had to tell me to settle down several times because I kept making fun of they guys. They climb a lot bigger trees than I ever have and I'm sure doing a traverse at that height could be a little nerve racking, but it can't be that bad. Not that much worse than doing it at 40', right? We used to have guy like their "best climber". He was good climber, but a complete moron and wuss. From about 9:00 in the morning until we quit at night he'd be worthless. Puking, hung over... etc. There's not place for that crap in this work.

Heli loggers was done in B.C. and we don t get to see it yet.(march 5,I think)It sounds like it has been done the Hollywood style.I know lots of the climbers on the coast and they are very professional/safe at their job, hope "Hollywood" doesn t make a proud profession look real bad.

For all you Canadians, Heli Loggers is on tomorrow night fri. March 13, 7 pm central time on Discovery Channel.
Back in 1995 when I was replaced by a processor, a few of my faller co-workers went out to the B.C. coast and got into heli-logging, they came back with stories about making a $1,000 a day guaranteed just with their saw and climbing gear. The choppers were charging over $10,000 hour then, now I believe they are charging over $15,000.
As someone said here earlier the show was "Hollywoodized."
B.C. [British Columbia, Canada] has some of the best and strictest logging safety practices in the world .Small example is work a saw on the job with no steeltoe boots or ballastic nylon pants and you get sent home with no pay for 3 days, then 2 more strikes you are fired.

From my 20 plus logging years here on the Canadian plains, try working in -45 F with a -70 F windchill in the coldest days of winter and then a few months later work in +110 F in the summer. That will toughen you up.

I enjoyed the Heli-logger show last night, with the way the BC Canadian loggers did things.Very professional looking. They make the Axe Men series loggers look like a bunch of hillbillies.

100 F is 38C, I never heard anything about 100F on the show, I must have missed it.
I don't think it ever gets that hot on Vancouver Island.BC. they are in the Pacific Ocean.
