Subject: Sherrill's throwbag a Harrison Rocket Copy allegation

Hi

I'm Eric Frei who runs the Tree World forum from Brisbane Australia.

It has come to light that a new throw bag by your company is very similar to a legendary Harrison Rocket throwbag made in New Zealand by a working arborist called Andy Harrison.

Here's a link to the thread where we would be interested in your response.
http://www.treeworld.info/f9/have-sh...html#post10809

Here's a thread where we reveal all the greatness of the Harrison Rocket.

Legendary Harrison Rocket Throwball

Also, I inform you that I will publish this email on the thread.

Regards
Eric Frei

Hello Guys,

FYI, SherrillTree is not a manufacturer like the chipper companies refered to above, or apparel, or soda makers, or the many manufacturers involved in mimicking proven trends or formulas. We are primarily a reseller of made goods, although we sometimes get involved in branding good ideas or moving an idea into our market first.

Several months ago I found out that Weaver was delivering this throw weight design to a dealer in Germany and that the weight would soon be available in the US (Weaver-reported). As a big fan of the Harrison Rocket (not so much of the price and transportation issues) I elected to switch all future inventory over to the product ASAP, but first I wanted to test it. In doing so I discovered that it needed modification, and for that, Weaver was thankful. Within 6 weeks the product was far more durable than first released (Let's keep this part between Americans).

We didn't contract Weaver or even suggest that they make this product, please feel free to confirm that with them. Would SherrillTree have done this on our own? Eventually i'm sure. Would we have paid Andrew a commission? If he supported the effort, absolutely. About 2 years ago he wasn't keen on the idea even though he had no patent or claim otherwise, and without patent protection such fees are... quite unusual. Name a product where we've done this before? Most recently- the Falteimer Cube, we volunteered a fee even though no patent exists in the US.

Just thought the "truth seekers" would care to know.

Be safe.

Ekka that sounds like a straight forward response from Sherrill. I asked for comments on the durability of this new product to the other Tree Climber Coalition members in the US and so far I have not seen any opinions. I like the color combination ( Green-Orange) because they are easy to see in the type of trees that we ( Recreational Climbers) climb.
I was not satisfied with the durability of the previous throw weights made of soft "leatherlike" material. They break too fast at the seams. I have used the throw weights made by New Tribe a small manufacturing outfit in Oregon and they last a long time and are made of a very bright orange color and durable material and the price is very reasonable for the quality they provide. Go to Tree Climbing Equipment for more details on their climbing gear.

The reply post above in #3 was taken from TB as a copy. Tobe asked me to do that.

There was no alteration or anything just a straight copy/paste.

It appears good fortune that we did that as TB's copy vanished, so did some other posts over there, not sure what or why as I run this place and MB runs that one!

But seriously, copying of ideas etc just goes on and on ... believe it or not in the professional world it's called plagiarism and I have recently been informed and alerted by Peter Sterken that he has become victim of such on his work pertaining to the safety and elasticity of palms.

A copy of the notice he issued is attached.

I wonder how Greg Good feels about everyone ripping off his idea?

I dont know, ask him how he felt when Frans made the Jr GRCS and Chris Cowell was it that made the Euro version.

Then there's also the Hobbs, Porty and over here we have Billy Goddards device. So if you'd like to summons all these people it would be great but I leave you with a quote below.

Last shot of the Teti LD, for those of you just itching to fire up the welder.

Thanks to Greg Good for coming up with the beefy version. I spose any design can be copied for personal use. It's only protected against sale for profit by the patent.

Also, Ken Johnson just donated a LD to the Canadian TREE Fund auction. It was used by Robert Phillips in his rigging demo at the Pacific NW ISA Annual Training Conference in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, last month. Thanks a bunch.

If you have some good running shoes and a pocket knife, there are plenty in central Australia

Default Have Sherrill's copied the Harrison ?

Under close inspection, identical in all respects.

Field testing, awesome bag, glad to have 12 oz. They fires and behave just like a Harrison. I love the color. Very, very sweet bags.

The only thing I haven't done is chop it in half to see if the internals are the same. I really don't want to go there.
