Treekiwi, I like your thread. I will post some pics as soon as I can walk across the yard without freezing to death. Most of our stuff is in our heated shop. The one thing that I have always thought about getting is a power tail-gate, for those too heavy to lift pieces. By the way, good looking set-up. |

| ![]() This is a very special truck mod, sure to get positive results! It's the "rear tinted window with middle sliding glass" truck mod!!! Only costs $550 US !!!! All jokes aside, I was hauling a load of oak rounds, about 4 foot diameter, and a lady cut me off on the freeway. Slammed on the brakes and one shifted, busted out the rear window. A "toyota" brand rear window exactly like the un-tinted one I had was around $800. I found this used tinted one, toyota made, for $550 =) It cut's down on the bright light coming through the rear window while driving, and keeps the truck a little cooler on hot days. Not that we've had any of those lately.... I liked your thread Kiwi... sorry I don't have more to offer. Since my truck's bed is polymer, most companies don't make "headache racks" that fit it, maybe I'll post pics when I weld up my own. Looks like we've got radically different versions of "work trucks" too Kiwi. =) |

Exactly! I'm gonna add some leafs to the rear. You fill the bed up decently and those stupid plastic mudflaps drag on the ground, then snap off. I've replaced two already, at $97 bucks apiece! ![]() I'm thinking about trading mine in for the 4WD... |

This is how the cargo part of my van looks like.I too had a pick-up truck in the past, but I sold it because it couldn't fit all of the gear so we had to select items before leaving. That usually resulted in not having with me what I needed to get the job done. I added a few racks and boxes and slings in this van. There were a lot of holes in the original structure for mounting things. I used those to attach loops of line and several items can be hung on those. When all gear is in place I can still add a 15 foot ladder (3 parts) on the floor or a small stump grinder or small chipper. The big chipper or trailer is towed. The aluminmum rach was custom made to size. Does cost a lot, but it sure keeps all the gear in place and it doens't get damaged during transport. Out here, we don't have specialised trucks like you guys have, so we have to be inventive an design the needed specifications ourselves. |

Hey quercus, nice set up. Ive often wondered about using a van for an extra vehicle for gear, stumper etc, but put off by the petrol fumes in it. When ever ive had to throw a saw in the car im off my face by the time i get to where im going |

Q, That's an awesome setup you've got with the van! All the equipment is so nice and clean and shiny... Nice way to organize it all. Maybe a van is the way to go! I was thinking about welding a fram for the bed of the pickup, multilevel, to hold all my stuff, but then I couldn't use it for chip/wood. Eh, I'll figure something out. Probably will end up welding together a trailer. |

I've got a trailer like this one. It's an electric tipper type and can hold up to 5000 pounds. The volume is 5.2 cubic meters.

Quercus, we are extremely impressed with your set up! (S Mc here: I must say my HOUSE isn't as clean as your van and rig!!! )So hopefully viewing this attachment won't cause you a lack of sleep. Having just reading some of the other threads here with the scholarly types, we don't know what the Latin, Greek, Austrialian or pre-Cromagnum era term for Ma and Pa Kettle is BUT that'ld be us. ![]() ![]() Seriously, we keep it simple, our gear is stored in the space behind the seat inside and rakes, shovels, picks, etc, in the space between the truck bed and side boards. We use a load handler (sliding tarp) for unloading. Works for us. D Mc and S Mc |

After seeing the incredible organized setup of Quercus I need to do some tidying. After the 5ft of snow melt and a will throw on some pictures. I can't find my dump truck or chipper.

OMG thanks a ton Dmc! Me and my dad have been playing around with ideas of conventional unloading for awhile now (Anti-tipping). We will be ordering a few of these shortly.

John Dee, Cool. If you and your dad are looking for simple and inexpensive and efficient, you will like the loadhandler. I think the loadhandler we are using is over 10 years old. We go through approximately 2 tarps a season but they are dirt cheap to replace. A full load of chips or logs are easy out. Sand seems to bind and grip so is not a good load to dump. Definitely cheaper than a tipper! D and S Mc |

Jeez... mate... You've got a big theft problem goin' on there or what? Fumes can become hazardous though... When I bought my van, I had the choice betwee a cargo net and a fully closed aluminum wall. I chose the net at first, but when the delivery of the van was due, I noticed they'd put in a wall instead. I disliked it first, but now I'm happy about that though. It kinda minimizes the rattling sound of the gear and holds back the fumes. Especially good when you're a smoker, like I am. Don't wanna let my van explode when lighting one uh huh!!!!! Yeah, I wouldn't like a van without the wall. Nice trailer, I saw one just like it last week, it went up faster than mine but mine is 22 years old, I put a new gal box on it 2 years ago. I use it mainly for palms, it's legal for 2 ton, but I've had 6 palms on it with the sides on. The little one is an exhaust tipper, good for 1, or 2 small ones, or firewood. |

Sorry didn't see your top line, no not really. There's about $4000 sitting there, so I can leave the windows down. helps with the fumes. |

Nope not really a theft problem here. I had my gps and car stereo stolen once when I was living in the city. Now I live in suburbia so no theft problem here. That's a MB Vito indeed. Best value for money...
